Oh, and I finally made it to the PM yesterday and think it went well. He gave me a steroid injection (is this an ESI?) and if that is not effective, we will go deeper and deeper until we find the biggest source of pain. I think it already has taken away about 50% of the pain so far :)

Then just the increase in Oxy for my MS pain (which is the worst!), and have to live with that :(

It sounds as if you might have had an ESI. (When in doubt, ask the doc :cool:). It's great that - whatever the injection was - it has offered you some pain relief, so far.

If you do feel an increase in pain, it is likely temporary and will subside in about 4 to 14 days.

It's not unusual to feel worsening of symptoms for a time following an injection - even with corto.steroids (sp?) - done within an office setting, and it's something I didn't know when I had my first injection (some years ago). But, it will pass.

Just take it easy and rest ... as needed :). I know you've probably read that plenty, and... it is true. It does help.

Thanks Bobbi! Glad you told me that b/c it's not as good today as yesterday. Not horrible, but not as good as shot day. Also, I mistakenly tried lifting up my son while I was sitting down, just trying to move him, and OMG, OUCH! So, that didn't help, I know.

Yeah, I am thinking ESI, as it was in his office. If we need to do the deeper injections, they would be in a different facility, and under anesthesea I guess?

I guess those are also ESI's? (don't see him again for 2 weeks, and just curious) I think they will be the same medicine, but will go into different parts of my spine. The facets, and somewhere else.

There is a bunch of press about that book "The Dangerous Book for Boys". It is about things boys do in the course of growing up. The dangerous part I guess is for risky games like mumbly peg where you could easily lose a finger.

Funny, in one neighborhood I spent several of my boyhood years, there was a trip to the emergency room for some kid every week. I don't remember it ever being a girl. I went four times.

If I were to write that book the danger part would be way too much. I would never ever suggest a kid grow up like I did with disaster just a heartbeat away at every turn. Thinking back on the junk we did and got away with (most of the time) I shutter to think if I had a son he would do such things. I was so glad when my only child was a girl!

I probably did everything in the book, but the things I did that I'm sure are not in that book were due to lack of supervision. We were like a wild tribe of near animal, roaming barbarians living off the land and conquering anything before us as if it were our destiny. One thing we never did though...disrespect an adult. Adults were like these god like creatures of another world who had lots of stuff. We feared them, obeyed them, but most of the time they were not around so into the great urban and woodland wildnesses we went to pillage, forage, and fight amongst ourselves like wolves on a carcass. Like so many fierce ancient tribes, if we could not find something to fight we would fight each other.

I've been shot, cut, burned, and beaten but those were all easily healed. It's those falls out of trees and roofs, bycicle wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, and finally as a teenager, car wrecks that put me on this forum.

My poor daughter had to suffer through over protection and supervision for I was going to make darn sure she would not get hurt as a child as I was. I can't believe she's 21 now. I blinked my eyes and she was grown and doing fine.

Jena, were you given any paperwork before/after your injection? It might state what type you had.

For all the ESIs I've had, I was consciously sedated and each was done in an O.R.

I hope that the injection gradually helps with your pain and that the relief sustains for a long, long time.


I can hardly wait to get my hands on that book, JB :D. I'm going to write a note before giving it to my friend's son and ask if he wants to pick out a couple of activities or wants me to so that we can do them together when I see him again. (He doesn't know that I'll be going to see them this Fall; it's a surprise). Also, because he is rather shy, his mom said, he'd like it if I could do some things with him; she said he considers me "his partner in crime."

Each time I see the little guy, I make sure that one day is set aside to do whatever it is he wants to do, and all the adults (his brother, mother, grandmother, uncle and others) make sure the day is totally centered on him.

I thought the book would be a goodie for you; I've heard and read that adult men are even enjoying it, since it brings back a lot of fond memories of things they did as boys :).
