Default Default c4-c5 and c5-c6 osteophytes

i was suffering from pain on my right side from past 12 yrs, initally the pain was slight and occured only sometimes, but gradually it increased and 4 yrs back it was diagnoised as cervical spondylosis at c4-c5

when i get the pain , it goes in my head and becomes unbearable and sleep was th only solution which wuld relive me from the pain

along with medication i had taken acupressure and acupuncture
during the treatment i was feeling good
with acupressure i wuld get instant relief , but now i have stopped the treatment. slight pain occurs . but any day if i do heavy work or even carry a handbag on my right side i get unbearable pain.

few days back i again took a digital cervical spine x-ray which shows degenerative changes in cervical spine with anteriior and posterior osteophytes at c4-c5 & c5-c6

disc space within normal limits.

how serious is it?
any whts teh remedy? and precautions to be taken

Default Hello sck

Hello and welcome to Neuro Talk. As long as your films say mild or moderate in the language this may be helped with physical therapy. When the cord is being pinched or pressed upon by herniation, that is where you get into trouble. I have had surgery, and also have this kind of condition. I actually do these excersises at home that I learned while in PT. If you stay with it, it may start to reduce the pain. Don't engage in therapies involving chiropractic manipulations. Only do this if a neurologist clears you. You don't want to make the condition worse.

Have you had an MRI? This is a better way to really see if the cord is being hurt. Much more detailed than just x-rays. Please seek a second opinion with a neurologist, he may have some ideas for you.
Have you had any type of injections? Have you had any medications to try to help? ginnie

Since the images/report don't clarify if the osteos are mild, moderate or severe it's hard to say much about that report.
A MRI would be a good follow up to have just to get more details.
Or if the dr that ordered the x rays can tell you if they are mild, mod, severe...

[if i do heavy work or even carry a handbag on my right side i get unbearable pain.]

Now this makes me tend to think possible soft tissue cause of pain, do your hands or arms get heavy/ painful?
