Default Take or no

OK, I'm having fusion surgery in the AM at 10:15. The material Ihave from my Dr's. office says NPO for 7 hours. In my morning regimen I take Keppra and Neurotin, and Dilantin, and lamictal.

The hospital and The guy on my doctors service just said take them dry or with the tiniest bit of water.

What do I do?

Default Hi Fence

When I had my fusion, I took my medicine as it was normal with just a sip of water. I will be thinking of you tomorrow. If you are worried about it, give the nurse a ring. You can always bring them with you to the appt. and let them decide right there. Rest well, all will be OK. ginnie

I even called my Dr's. service and they said try to take them dry. (when I said they were mostly anti-epileptics. (Dilantin, keppra, Neurontin, Lamotragine)

I just re-read the e-mail from the Surgeon's office and it says no food or water 8 hours. I wonder if I take them then? I can't take them when I get to the hospital, it's too late.

The paperwork I got from the hospital says nothing from Midnight forward unless it is blood pressure or pain. I wonder if I take them at midnight it would be OK. I don't want to mess this up for tomorrow.

Does the surgery actually begin (cutting) at 10:15, or is that the time you report in, or begin prep, or what? From what I could glean from a quick googling, I'd take whatever you can 7 hrs before anesthesia, and if you have to take anything later, do as they want—take it dry or with the minimum sip (or if you can, work up enough saliva to take the odd pill—that should be same as dry).

Best wishes,

Doc

I just took my morning regimen dry. It's t minus 6 hours. I check in at 8:15. I have this image of them standing there staring at the clock and when a bell rings at 10:15 they start. (like in the meat plants my father used to own)

Most of them are anti seizure. My brother said his biggest concern was more the anesthesia and not having a stroke or such. I reminded him that he is always such a ray of sunshine.
