Default i'm from the MS forum...having back surgery soon

hi, i'm from the MS forum.

i'm having L4 back surgery in march. 2 orthopods have said my back is unstable. i have hip, butt, and leg sx's. my dr can't guarantee how much my legs will improve but he feels they will. hard to discern the disc problem from the MS.

when standing or sitting for any length of time my pain increases, and to the point when i can't stand any more. i've been doing home PT exercises to strengthen my legs and abdomen.

i'm wondering what's involved in rehabbing from this. my dr may put me in rehab after the surgery for 1-2 wks and/or order home care. i have a lot of friends but live alone. right now i only use a cane and am independent.

thanks for any info you can give me.

What kind of surgery are they going to do for an unstable L4?
Fuse it, or something else?
