Frown Laminectomy & Microdiscectomy L5/S1

Has anyone had these procedures and was it successful? And what are the risks?

My pain is at the left S1 joint/hip and does not radiate to my legs.

I previously had that surgery before I started having the SI joint/hip pain. I most recently had a fusion at S1-L5 and L5-L4. It relieved the pain that radiated down my leg, but it did not relieve my SI joint/hip pain or my tailbone pain. I had a steroid injection in my SI joint, and all of my SI joint/hip and tailbone pain was gone for a couple of days. My follow-up appointment for the injection is on the 17th. It is certain to me, in my case, that my SI joint is the problem.

I have had the SI injection and it has worked in the past.. I have been having injections for 4 years now and none of them seem to be working anymore... Argh..

The surgeon doesn't think the surgery will get rid of the pain but I have read others with this issue that it has helped .. Very confused on what to do but doing nothing and being in pain the rest of my life seems like a deal killer.

Thanks for your insight.

My doctor told me they may have to recommend an SI joint fusion to me if the injection doesn't work. I wish you the best, and I hope you get relief soon.

I deal with an aging old back and read so many reports on back surgeries...one leads to another and another and many people keep getting them.

I've never had a back surgery, but a hip replacement really did me in in 2010....lots of complications I deal with and back is way worse since this surgery.

Many people learn to suck it up as I do and have had good help with acupuncture which I think I'll start again soon. Many chiros work with laser and ultrasound which can also help. My mind says, elective surgery is last resort.

I do stretches for spinal and work with specific exercises for my back...move as best I can but my life has changed so much since hip replacement and not for the better.

What basis/assumptions would they make to do a fusion? Seems like something should have to be broke or herniated to do that?

I want some to find a definitive place the pain is coming from, we're doing all these procedures and seems like none of them know what their doing... And I have trained Dr. ... Argh..

Because the injection into my SI joint did initially kill the pain. It is a treatment and a way to diagnose the problem. So, he was able to tell this problem is my SI joint.
