Hi everyone sorry for the long absence. I'ts3 weeks since surgery after the L5 S1 fusion. Every thing has gone well from what the surgeon said and I'm on the slow road to recovery. My thigh and buttock pain has gone which is fanatic but my wife and i are very concerned that i still have shin pain and numbness in some toes on my left side. My surgeon said if i still have that pain when i return to see him for my follow up 5 week appointment we should do another MRI.
I have now had an L3 Laminectomy and a L5 S1 fusion in the past 4 months and still have pain in my shin and some numbness under a couple of toes off and on. Im greatful the other pain has gone but why after two operations nothing is working with the shin and toes. I would be greatful for anyone who may have any ideas for me. As we all know everyone is different as are outcomes. You still have a lot of healing time so hopefully you will feel better and better...there are no guarantees. I live with a lot of complications from hip replacement but do all my best to never do another Elective surgery. My back issues are over 60 yrs and I keep going as best and no back surgery.
Just talked to my 72 old brother who is in the East and I talked him out of fusion/lam surgery over a year ago and he's doing good ENOUGH. I preach to him to take care of himself and stretch/exercise the back and do other modalities as best he can. He;s a golfer and still works at golf and plays too. Keep Healing... |

Thank you Caroline, I have lost the pain from the upper leg, perhaps I have to put up with the shin/foot issues.

For me and the hip job, I lost groin pain but gained shorter leg, femoral nerve damage and IT band damage...worse OA knee, and foot OA. some tradeoffs, huh?
Maybe that's what these surgeries do. My neighbor had a fusion about a 1.5 yrs ago and when I see him ask how things are and he says his hip is giving him problems...but then says he won't do a hip surgery. A woman friend had a knee replacement a couple yrs ago and we check in and she still has pain but can now walk her stairs better. Then says she would never do the other knee which gives her fits. |
