Hi CRPS, I'm not certain I'm talking about the same thing you are. I have bulging discs in my lower back with sciatica and lumbar stenosis too.
So I get steroid injections as often as I can. (Here it's a long, long wait to see the pain management doctor - he's an anesthesiologist too - and then about 3 months wait to get the injections).
For me the injections are very good, almost magical most of the time. I sure hope you have the same good fortune.
