Bone spurs can cause a significant amount of pain. I have several in my cervical spine. Short of surgery, you could ask for a SELECTIVE NERVE ROOT injection; not an ESI. ESI's can help but it is this other that helped me the most by calming down the nerve root the bone spur was encroaching on. However, my C3/C4 was so bad...you couldn't see the nerve roots; so surgery it was. The spurs I have now just make CONTACT but there is no impingement. Still, there can be pain...so injections it is. The thing I have ALWAYS been told is...oral meds will HELP with the pain but you really need to get the nerve calmed down. My PM says that oral medications will simply not get that far down in there. In other words...having numbing and steroid medication place right near it will help more. And it usually does. Oops, and almost forgot. I FINALLY was able to ask my PM why he didn't do ESI's in the neck because I hear about this a lot. And without going into all he said...just know...VERY dangerous. So, yep, the neck is a far cry from the back. He will do ESI's in the lumbar...just not the neck. I have only had one done in the back, then it was facet injections and then an RF. Of course I am speaking of facet issues here and not actual herniations.

Thanks....I'm amazed when doc's say bone spurs don't cause pain. If not, the WHAT IS? He needs to answer it and figure it out!

I go see the spine doc on Monday...I hope he has a new direction to take me in. Been hurting so bad, sleeping in a recliner by the middle of the night, now have a big pain in my upper back from that....it just gets worse...not better!

My upper will no doubt resolve itself...but they HAVE to do something about this low back pain. I can't take it anymore and I'm becoming upset about it....again. Hope I can get the cortizone injection again...or ANY injection, whatever that may be...

Lightbulb Bone spurs

Bone spurs do hurt If they have never had it they do not know how it feels.
I also wanted to ask braingonebad something about his post about his shot
he said he had pain in his shoulder. The reason I am asking is I have been having pain in my shoulder after a had a wreck that my neck was hurt in and also I have been having a feeling of burn at the bace of my neck in between my shoulders
