Thanks for the links, and your support. They've become helpful already.
I've registered in the Rutgers group and have had a relative talk with someone at the 800 number at the Reeves site. All of you are giving me what I meed most - prayer and places to go, to be able to get a grip on this situation. I'm still in shock.
I saw my son last nite and he's awake and alert after 2 surgeries anterior and posterior at C-5. He's agitated, uncomfortable and wants the intibation out. He thinks he'll be able to breathe on his own without a tracheostomy. I'm trying to find out if the docs will try to not 'trache' him.

Thumbs up

((((((Bob)))))),

I'm really encouraged by what you've just written.

Sounds like your son is feisty -- that's good -- that's gonna get him through this.

One thing that I read in some of the research that I did is that people with this type of injury tend to get pneumonia. Once they get your son off the trache, work with him to BREATHE DEEPLY. There'll probably be a therapist to help with this; but, his family should help too.

I know from my own experience as a home health aide and taking care of my Mom that the families that actively participate in their loved one's care have the best outcome.

You guys are still on my prayer list and in my heart. Bless you all and may G-d watch over your son and keep him safe. BIG HUGS.

Barb
