Hi, my husband had an MRI in 2006 that showed:

1. L4 - L5 posterior central disc protrusion.
2. L5 - S1 left paracentral disc extrusion

Impression:
1. Lumbar displaced disc
2. Lumbar DD
3. Lumbar facet joint syndrome

He was in a car accident in 2007 and had another MRI done that showed:

Routine multiplanar images were obtained throughout the lumbar spine. The vertebral body heights are well maintained. There is mild dehydration of all of the lumbar discs. The conus tip is at the level of L1-L2 disc.

L4-L4: There is a central extrusion with caudal migration of disc effacing the thecal sac. AP canal diameter is approximately 17 mm.

L5: There is a left paracentral extrusion effacing the thecal sac. AP canal diameter is approximately 17 mm. There is some left foramen encroachment as seen on sagittal images.

Impression:

1. Lumbar spondylosis with dehydrated discs at all levels. This was not

2. Central extrusion L4-L5 subligamentous with caudal migration of disc. There is no canal stenosis. There is some mild bilateral foramen encroachment slightly greater to the right of midline.

3. Left paracentral extrusion L5-S1 with some effacement of the thecal sac and narrowing of both neural foramen greater on the left side.



My question is, was there any change from the first to the second MRI. Reading it with my limited knowledge, it seems that in 2006 there was a protrusion in the L4-L5, and in 2007 there was an extrusion in the L4-L5. I Bold and Underlined the items on the MRI that I had questions on.
