Here I was going to post today the results of my lumbar/sacral/tailbone MRI and last night I fell. Was at my daughters and walked down the stairs to their family room (with slick shoes on) and my feet flew out. I fell down several flights, hitting my tailbone and twisted to the left to stop the fall resulting in a badly bruised arm to boot.

I can't sit directly down at all! I'm on my tailbone pillow tilting forward.

Of ALL places to land on!!! 2 weeks after my tailbone MRI!

And I still haven't gotten a referral to anyone, still waiting for that.

The IMPRESSION (the abstract of the MRI) is:

Moderately severe degenerative disc changes at the L4-L5 level with a very large posterior disc spur complex. Moderate degerative disc changes at the L3-L4 level. Gross change from 9/6/2005. The sacrum is normal. There is a spur formation along the anterior margin at the junction of the first and second coccygeal segments compatible with old and possibly chronic trauma. Focal moderately severe degenerative changes at the junction of coccygeal segments 1 and 2.

I wonder if landing on my tailbone this weekend and then having the MRI would have made any different in the picture. Sigh.

It was REALLY hard driving home from the kids. Had to sit on my hip and try to hold myself up at the same time. Cruise control is good.

Ouch!! That much hurt like 7734.

My husband fell off a motocycle (that he shouldn't have been on in the first place -- too big for him).

I shouldn't be laughing -- but, the motorcycle took off down the street with him hanging on -- he went full throttle up over the sidewalk and knocked our neighbor's lightpole down and crashed into their porch and broke it (the porch) and then landed on his butt and fractured his tailbone. He WAS a sight!! Luckily he was a barber and didn't have to sit down much until it healed.

If you landed that hard and feel THAT bad, you maybe should get an x-ray if it's still hurting in a few days. Looks like you already have problems in that area.

I won't offer to kiss your boo-boo -- but I will offer a BIG HUG. I hope you feel better.

I know someone who fractured her tailbone, and while surgery was recommended, she refused, and did very well with acupuncture.

kid no. 2 did something to my tail bone on his way out- his face was the opposite way from normal {can't remember if face up or down}.
anyway his head bruised or broke my tail bone.

The pressure from sitting or getting up and then sitting back down with that was way worse than the delivery!

I didn't go to the doc or even mention it to anyone , til after it quit hurting - then I told hubby & mom.

But in your case I think at least calling your dr and telling him would be a good idea. Better to follow this up now than to wait.

face up is opposite. all mine where "stargazers". back labor..and all tailbone bumpers. ouch!

pssss....i agree with jo...give your doc a call...a heads up on you falling.

I have problems in this area too..as you know..I can only imagine the pain you must in!!So sorry to hear about this...
Please take the advice here and go in to get checked out.

I broke mine in 1997 in one of my more 'dramatic' seizures. At the time, my pride was crushed but my butt really hurt. I still deal with this, however, it gets better.

During my cycle it will swell up a LOT, that's one downside.

I dealt with the pain and did some physical therapy but it never fully healed. I ended up with hip bursitis (I sat leaning to avoid the lower back pain and put pressure on my hip) and sciatica as a result of the actual injury.

I read a lot on surgery (they remove the tip/coccyx I believe) and the risks were much higher than the rewards. Plus, getting trigger points and nerve blocks aren't as invasive. I've been getting both for around 4 years and 2 weeks after my first cortisone injection was the first time in my life I walked around pain free. Walking, standing and sitting all caused pain and swelling. I will praise those shots until the day I go.

The downside is you can only have so many a year 3-4 I think. Mine last 9-12 months, sometimes longer. The duration varies by person. However, if you find a fracture (and even if you don't have one, chances of feeling this a while are high) - give it time to settle before you look into physical medicine (injections).

Cortisone injections aren't bad, they actually numb the area first now (they didn't back in the day). Nerve blocks still make me cower.

Oh, try to get Lidoderm patches if your insurance will cover them. They are like big stickers you can put on your butt (or whatever area hurts) and it numbs it! Best thing since sliced bread, I tell ya.

My doctor did xrays this morning The S2? is cracked three 4ths of the way through with a small protruding bone chip.

Actually, it's the 2nd or 3rd bone from the bottom of the coccyx, whatever that is.

I"m going home to rest the rest of the afternoon.

Sigh.

Hurts like hell.
