Default Valerian anyone ?

Hi, a member of my family had a stroke 2 years ago , which was caused by a growth which was successfully removed and followed through with Radium but anyway she's fine now, thank god, just recently had an MIR which showed no problems at all now.
She has terrible trouble trying to sleep, and can't take perscription sleeping meds so i suggested Valarian & magnesuim which helped me a lot when i had that problem, but i said to ask the neuro or her doctor if it will be ok to take, well to cut a long story short and i don't know why but, she asked a person that works in a health store and was told that Valerian would incresase her blood pressure, i have found no evidence on the net to support the claim so i was wondering if any of you people have tried it or have had any problems with it at all or know something else that could help her.
thanks

Hello Brian:

I have used valarian on occassion and have never experienced higher blood pressure.

If I were you though, I would start off with something very mild. My Grandmothers used the wild chamomile plant up here in Alaska extensively. I myself drink the tea. It is very calming. I have the german chamomile growing wild in my garden.

Start off with the teas half an hour before bedtime, if that does not do the trick then a bath with chamomile tincture.
