That's something my dad used to say a lot...I think when you are a school teacher in the 1930's and have four children to clothe and feed on the meger wages they used to pay..that's how he probably felt.
He drove a Hudson Hornet (46) and rode the clutch...burned out 5 of them..driving would have been easier for him if he'd had an automatic... We met some friends for lunch our first day here..she is an old childhood friend of mine...grew up in the same neighborhood and she was crazy about my dad...we got to laughing about his driving...how he always leaned to which ever side he was turning to...so we thought that part of driving was leaning...thought that the car wouldn't turn if you didnt lean. Michael was crazy about him...when he slept over at Grandpa's house he got to have coffee with him in the morning....lots of cream and sugar...my mom fed him oatmeal which I never cooked. I'm grateful that my Dad never knew that Michael killed himself...it would have broken his heart. A new year always makes me look back and remember..makes me thankful for what was... Can it really be 1 degree here in Chicago this morning????
