Heart

Hi guys.... just wanted to give you an update on Anne... Shes doing quite well actually, suppose to come back to our facility tomorrow. Barbo, i understand what you are saying... she does have a DNR, but the kids are only after her money. we have several residents who live where i work and their children seldom ever come to see them. Only on holidays. Anne is one of them. It just angers me when i think about it. I'd much rather have my mother here than have her gone and get her money..... Anyway I hope you guys have a good Wednesday. It is normally my day off, but i'm going in to work the front desk. The girl who normally works it had to work midnight to 8:00 last night to train another person. Since I'm off on Weds., and Thurs. I normally am the one who gets asked to work.

Default Goofy

I sometimes go to nursing home/assisted living facilities for my work in Hospice. It breaks my heart to see how many of the residents have NO visitors.

now this DNR thing though, independently of this incident... how does that work... i mean, basically even if something gets stuck in your throat - say, which can be dislodged so you can breathe again in time NOT to cause BRAIN DAMAGE at all... then, does a DNR clause mean they are supposed to let you die?

Barbo, i wonder if you could explain? sorry.

Yes they should let you die if you have DNR orders. They are not to be taken lightly. Now if you are conscious and can talk it is possible to rescind them. I had a friend in her 90's in a nursing home in Yellow Springs, Ohio. She had a DNR and passed out and they revived her and she was furious. Don't ask for DNR orders unless you have thought long and hard about it. People take you seriously.
