I found out something recently that I was absolutely baffled. Japan has a higher rate of suicide than the U.S. They have a book out, that was number 1, it shows the fastest and most successful ways to do it. They have 1-5 crossbones on how successful you'll be, doing it a certain way. A lot of them started killing themselves in front of trains. So the government charges the family 1.2 million if you kill yourself in front of a train and up to 12 million if the train derails. The one guy that was being interviewed carries around a pill package that will kill him. Over there if you fail you are a disgrace to the family. A lot of people have lost their jobs and feel like failures. So imagine you lose your loved one and get a bill for 1.2 million. The people say if you're going to kill yourself do it somewhere else, not in front of the train.

That's terrible. I didn't know that their country still approved suicide. They have a book on how to do it? This is sad. BF

I'm surprised the book wasn't banned. I always thought their morals were higher than ours. It was sad. The guy they interviewed looked so sad, I felt really bad for him.

I agree with you. That book should be banned in all countries, including theirs. They should value a life. They should not honor suicide. This must be coming from their ancient beliefs. I hope that this changes. BF

Not only that they punish the families if their love one commits suicide with a train, to the tune of 1.2 million. So their family has to pray if they kill themselves they don't use the train. The people applaud this law. I hope that they start helping these people instead of punishing the families.

There is a cultural element to views on suicide. Shinto doesn't share Christianity's absolute moral prohibitions against killing oneself. It will be interesting (for lack of a better word) to see what happens to suicide rates as the Western world becomes more secular.
