Cara

I didn't know either. Hope all is well.

I don't think Doody would mind that I copy a few things she said on FB:

Quote:

Cara didn't get into surgery until quite late and surgery was over at 9:00 p.m. Gall bladder had a polyp, inflammed and swollen, adhered to liver in one spot. No big surprises. She is just getting back to her room about now (10-10:30 p.m. don't know, I had to come home and get Oscar in bed). Now we wait to see if t...his is her problem. Thank you all for your support.
and then today:

Quote:

Thanks again everyone for your support. Cara was sitting up in bed this morning, eyes wide open, a little grouchy, her color back and NO head pain. Docs are still mystified that head pain stopped after surgery. They will continue to monitor her other functions (kidney, etc.,) to make sure they are continuing to leve...l out. So we will see. And now hope that she adjusts well to her gallbladder-less body.
Like you all, I'm lighting candles and praying hard!

GOOD NEWS ABOUT CARA - whew!

Doody 08-04-2010 11:49 AM

Oh my gosh, thanks you guys. Haven't been here. Would have been too many updates anyway.

Cara became really ill late last Wed night. Severe head pain, back pain, vomiting, fevers, chills. Went to urgent care clinic 2x. Said it was a virus but to go to emergency if it wasn't better next day. it was much worse, so she went to emergency room.

They did a spinal tap thinking meningitis, xrays, ct scan, ultrasound, MRI, cultures, blood tests. it was so bad she either begged for help or moaned she wanted to just die.

Short of it is they were mystified her liver, kidneys and spleen were showing abnormal counts, white blood cell count was low, not high, so no indication of infection. The scans showed that her gall bladder was inflamed and enlarged but they didn't think it was the gall bladder.

But she kept getting worse so they decided to take out the gall bladder. turns out the GB was adhering to the liver and wasn't in the best shape, but they still didn't think it would be making her more sick.

Voila, she's getting better! She woke up after surgery, it was like an entirely different person. First thing she said was that the head pain was completely gone!

This was stressful! I honestly thought she was dying. But she's on the mend. Waiting for more test results, but I think she'll get to go home soon.

Thanks so much Ms. Alffe and everyone for caring. :grouphug:
