I saw this on the PC home page today and thought to bring it over here too.

I'm glad I saw this. I was about to start a new post but hate putting my name up in lights.
After 6 years I've started going back to my therapist, a wonderful woman, just yesterday. I thought I already knew all of the things she would talk to me about when we discussed suicidal thoughts, but she caught me off guard with what she said yesterday. Though...I'm sure all of you survivors probably already know this. I told her I knew leaving this world would be hard on loved ones, but that the thought of not dealing anymore was beginning to rise above that. She pointed out that when one commits suicide it affects loved ones left behind in more ways than I had apparently thought. She said those left behind have a higher likelihood of committing suicide themselves at some point. This really gave me pause for thought! It made me also think of you ((Ms. Alffe)) with the gun in the graveyard. I don't even want to think about my own daughter or even my grandson taking their own lives because of something I did. So, moving along... Major depressive disorder sucks but not as much as the thought of my own loves ones taking their lives. And brings me to say once again, I do believe that 'talk therapy' is vital in helping to deal with depression and suicidal thoughts. Thank you for all of the good reads.

(((Doody))) .... we are so much alike! We've both gone through some major changes with our jobs this past year.... and wow, can I ever relate to not wanting to deal with things! But look... we ARE dealing with it! Its damn scary, isn't it?!!
We're both alone (meaning: with nobody but ourselves to take care of ourselves - no partner)... yet we both have friends and family who love us very much, not to mention Grand-Doody and Grand-Addy... my gosh, what we'd miss... and what THEY would miss if we weren't here... thank goodness you have such a good therapist! I'm gonna stick around... and I can rest tonight knowing you are, too! |

My playmate from when I was a toddler lost his Dad to suicide (a secret). His Mom died within weeks from cancer. My friend was 7. I often wonder if he knows about his Dad. My Mom believed the cancer came out of remission because of the suicide.
