I just wanted to weigh in and dispense a HUG . I clearly know depression and the toll it takes. Being with people, working in a therapeutic setting, taking proper meds with appropriate liquids, and receiving hugs and care from us here all help.

Alcohol is commonly known as a depressant, and the notion of taking it at all when one is experiencing depression just sets up a compounding of the effect.

Here is another hug from one who cares.

Or a kitty! I think your neighbor had a kitty that you befriended if I remember correctly. There are so many homeless animals that would love to be rescued by you Lonely1.

I love Bizi and her idea of a dog. I adopted a 3 day old kitten and have loved every minute of his kitten hood. It might be worth a try, and turn out to be something really fantastic for you.
I also have something else you might want to consider. I made a list, a real list of those things that bring some kind of joy into my life. If it is a walk in the woods, or going to goodwill, or just to call someone I care about, I do it. That list of mine keeps me going. Small things can make a difference.
Do you have any hobby you have been interested in? Reading? Often reading can be an adventure. I never expected reading to be so much fun. Started when I was depressed coming home from Mayo clinic.
We will all be here for you. I am not so lonely when I come to this site. There is joy, even if in tiny moments you can have. Just reach for it and try something new. I care about you, ginnie

Hey Lonely1!!!!

I understand where you are. I finally decided to go back to school. Now mind you I attend all of my classes online but they give me a purpose and something to do.

Sometimes it's a struggle but my first semester went better than expected and I have strong hopes for this semester which I am 3 days into. I'm not sure where this is going to lead and I may change my course but time will tell after this semester.

Maybe try taking an online course will peek your interest and get your life going like it has mine. JUST A SUGGESTION.
