Default Greetings from the Big Apple!

And to think that I argued with Mr.Alffe about bringing this computer along.

I was so glad to see a post from our Goofy and I hope you're taking it easy.
Now if BJ would just check in.....

Doody I emailed you....don't have your forum address in this computer and I wanted to be sure you got my message...

Curious I wanted to send you a card from NY but left my address book at home....snail mail will be coming. Same message to you Scrabble!

Ok...time to hit the streets. Hugs for the room and don't party in the tree house. *grin

Alffe,
have a wonderful time there you two!

I'm sorry I didn't ever get to New York. I was close but was lazy or scared I guess. Maybe both. I was in DC and my friend that I was travelling with had something to do in NY so caught the train there one day. I didn't want to be there alone so didn't go. I also wished I'd gone and put my toes in the Atlantic Ocean as well but didn't realize I was so close to that either. lol

bizi,
great question and one I always wondered myself.

http://gothamcenter.org/faq.shtml

Gotham Centre for New York History

New York Public Library says there are a few different reasons. http://www.nypl.org/research/chss/faq.html#apple

New York historical society has some info there too but their site is taking way too long to load for me. There's a section called NYC Q&A on their site if you click it might give more info.

https://nyhistory.org/web/default.ph...esearch_guides

Seems there are a few theories. One was to do with horses, other was to do with a Jazz Club and the other was to do with jazz musicians from New Orleans. Very interesting all of them.

p.s. Alffe.

Treehouse is actually pretty quiet.

Walked and walked and walked in Central Park. Saw this for the first time

http://www.centralpark2000.com/datab...erland%20.html

It was fabulous! On our way back out to Sarges Deli....will link it later.

The tree house looked VERY busy! LOL

And I love you too Bizi. It's hot and humid but not rainning yet.

aren't laptops grand??

And speaking of laps...if Mr. Alpho goes down 42nd street....he can get some on his lap....ROFL.......but I am sure you won't let him and he isn't that kinda dude...LOLOLOL and NOT that I'd know what that is in the first place!!

OK, slapping meself on me wrist for even mentioning that...

central park is pretty awesome, isn't it?? I really miss NYC...

and if people would've named NYC during the winter time when the guys would pee in the snow...I don't think they'd use BIG APPLE for the moniker...LMAO................................

Lara..NY can be kind of gritty but it truly has a charm that's totally different from Chicago. It doesn't sleep...Sarge's Deli, where we ate last night is open
24/7 and full of friendly people...Mr.Alffe observed that it was full of old people.. so we fit right in.

We try to get here once a year and there's so much to see and do that it's all new. Today my guy wants to WALK across the Brooklyn Bridge...LOL..guess it has fabulous views. We have taken that tram over the east river to that little isle (can't remember the name).

Shelley we did see the zoo! And since it was Sunday the park was full of families with those remote control sailboats on the little lake...and artists painting faces, doing portraits. Musicians and entertainers for the kids.
Such fun! We passed on the buggy rides...I always feel sorry for the horses in the heat.

moi, it isn't just 42nd street anymore. I remember on our first visit here, in broad day light a man, in a light blue summer suit came stumbling out of a bar, covered with blood and collapsed on top of someone's car. That kind of thing gets your attention but it's rare.

And did I mention the subways? I adore them...talk about gritty! But they run on time and get you where you want to go.

It's sobering to be here this time of year...with tomorrows' anniversary date of 9-11 there will be a lot of memorials going on and needless to say, the city is awash with security.

Ok...enough about me...what's on your plate? Hugs for the room.

Curious I'm keeping you in my prayers.

Alffe - (and Doody!)... I have loved reading about both your travels and especially when you were together!

Thinking of you and all Americans as we come to tomorrow ...
our world has never been the same

It is beautiful here, weather wise... here is a photo of me - I spent the weekend at Whistler (world renowned ski resort and the reason we are getting the Olympics in 2010.) - - I spent hours hiking, riding gondolas and chair lifts to get to the top of the world!

I can't figure out how to post big pictures so here are some little ones that you click on to see them larger:

ADDY!!!!! It is so fun to finally see you after all these years!

I am so jealous of where you live. I think the northwest territory is a miracle. It's so beautiful, and that place you visited is just awesome! You lucky!
