Oh, I just don't know what to say. I hope you and Nina feel better soon. She is an elderly lady so do be careful. Bless your hearts.

ah ok well flaxseed oil and cottage cheese in *normal* doses are generally safe for dogs unless of course they have allergies to either. It sure sounds to me like maybe this is a digestive allergy/intolerance or maybe just too much of a good thing?
same with humans...I take flaxseed oil capsules daily and I eat cottage cheese a few times a week. I do hope Nina is ok and you too. Good that you are taking her in to be checked out. hope you are feeling better too

I am so upset. Nina is in the hospital right now and I am already staring at a bill of 1k. Her regular vet is in Mexico so this new guy, who doesn't know anything about her said this has probably been caused by the flaxseed oil and that she may have pancreaitis (spelling?). I am devestated to think that I did this to her when I was trying to save her life. Her tumor is actually smaller today, so I know it must have been having an affect on it. Her overall behavior has been great until last night. By the time I got out of the shower this morning she was still standing in the same position with her head hung low. She refused to lay down. As sick as I've been I can't believe I lifted her 60lbs compared to my 110 in the back of my suv. Normally Nina loves her rides and looks out the windows the whole time. She never even lifted her head off the floor after I laid her down and covered her with her blankie. When we got there, they were just opening up and came out with a stretcher. From there, I just laid on the floor with her till the doctor came in.
I plead for all your prays. We are all devestated. I really wish I knew how to post her picture so you could put a face with her name. She looks much like a wolf, but with ice white pale blue eyes. Her beauty mark eyeliner makes her just beautiful. Everywhere I go people comment about how beautiful she is. Gee I hope I look that good when Im 98! Thank you for all the blessings |

NoHope, I hate to tell you this but this is the way that it goes with animals. Like I said before you don't really know how they are feeling until it gets really bad. It seems to happen overnight but it hasn't. My Bonnie was OK one day and the next she couldn't climb the stairs. I can't possibly guide you in this journey but I have been there before. Torn as what to do with another being's life. It all comes down to Nina's quality of life, there will come a time when she will tell you when she is ready to go. I am crying as I write this as I have been there too.
Hugs, Hope |

Update, just called the vet and his tech said she is perking up! She is in her kennel with an IV and medication for pain. They said her head is up, she is alert and wondering what the heck is going on! Go Nina! You go girl!

Vet just called and by looking at the x-rays, bloodwork and several enzymes being elevated it is highly suspicious that this is pancreatitis. At 3 pm I will be transporting her to the emergency 24 hour clinic for constant observation while on fluids. I will not be able to take her home with me tonight Hopefully tomorrow we can pick her back up.

Hi all, me and the girls are home now and Nina is at the emergency clinic hooked up to an IV and will be under constant observation the whole night. We took her blankie and babies in and tucked her in with a hundred kisses. I don't know what possessed me to go "back in the back of the clinic" again. We passed a dog on a blanket completely shaven with a huge HUGE black patch on his back oozing blood and green. I had to stay focused and go to Nina. I remember when my Prince (himilayan) died 5 years ago tomorrow and sitting "back there" holding him while right next to us was a retriever screaming in pain. I was crying for the retriever, not my ailing cat. I had to know why they just let her lay there screaming and wouldn't help her and asked the tech. They said they were just waiting for the owners to show up so they could put her down. Numb, we left and I never forgot it. You ever think about what is going on in their minds when they are trembling when they enter a clinic? They must think that they are scientific experiments and their owner just deserts them during that time. I remember when my lab stood up on his hind legs and pushed the lobby door open and bolted and I still made him go "back in". Chip died 4 years ago March 30. I shudder as I type this. What are those sweet little souls thinking when we are just trying to do whats best? I believe animals have a soul, just not a voice. Out of a family of 8, there are only 4 left, and so we continue to battle for Nina.
