Angry Senator John McCain -- using 'suicide' as a joke to convey a message

If you want to send Senator John McCain (of Arizona) a message about using suicide as a joke to convey a political message., here's the link:

http://mccain.senate.gov/index.cfm?f...n=Contact.Home

from the Quad-City Times:

Quote:
McCain doesn't think Democrats will take over Congress in upcoming elections

TODAY: (Updated 1: 32 p.m.) DES MOINES — U.S. Sen. John McCain answered with some dark humor when asked today what he would do if Democrats gain control of the House and Senate.

“I think I’d just commit suicide,” he said with a smile.

“I don’t want to face that eventuality because I don’t think it’s going to happen,” he added.

The Arizona Republican appeared at a Des Moines country club with congressional candidate Jeff Lamberti of Ankeny and U.S. Rep. Tom Latham, R-Iowa.

McCain said he is working hard to help Republicans running for Congress.

“I think we have a very challenging election. I think we’re going to work very hard in the next three weeks getting our message out,” he said.

Lamberti, co-president of the Iowa Senate, is challenging U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell, D-Iowa.

“As we head to the end (of the campaign) it’s more important than ever that we get the support and the help, so I’m really excited to have Sen. McCain here,” Lamberti said.

Asked about the situation in Iraq, McCain said the conflict should not be described as a civil war. He said the U.S. military needs to expand so there is less need to rely on the National Guard.

“When you look at the deployment of the Iowa National Guard and the magnificent service they have rendered, it’s really incredible, but it’s too much of a strain on the Guard,” he said.

More details of this story will be published Thursday in the Quad-City Times and on www.qctimes.com.
I've always had a lot of respect for this man (even though he's a Republican). I respected his military service. And I respected his political career.

NO LONGER. I am outraged that this man used 'suicide' in a joking manner to convey a message about POLITICS.

I have spent 40 years coming back from my Brother's suicide. Suicide is not a joke -- it is NEVER a joke.

Thanks.

Thank you Barb! I just wrote him about his ignorance. Like you, I had supported him inspite of the fact that he's an R. You just don't expect the people that you admire to be so stupid!! Hugs.

First let me preface this by saying I was going up and down the dial on the radio trying to find the weather and I just happed to stop on Rush Limbaugh...need hurling emote here...He was discussing this. He said while he thought Senator McCain was attempting a little bit of levity, his staffers right now aren't appreciating his attempt at levity. How true!

What an idiot!!
I agree with Julie, about what his staff must be thinking after such an inappropriate response!

Thanks for posting this Barb!
