Default Yesterday..Today..Tomorrow

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.

We cannot undo a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow with all its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and its poor performance; Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is yet to be born.

This leaves only one day, Today.

Any person can fight the battle of just one day. It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities, Yesterday and Tomorrow, that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad, it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us, therefore, Live but one day at a time.

hi Alpho,

always love those "live for the now" posts...now, of course I am going to feed off of your post and add my own $1.00 (due to inflation, gas increase, and who knows what they'll cost tomorrow, but am not going to worry about that, NOW LOL)

I've been thinking about the yesterday, today, tomorrow thing a lot in the past few years; been reading the western literatures and eastern literatures and now back to the western literatures...

for me, yesterday is about lessons, lessons that I have learnt and hopefully will not make those mistakes again, and if the lessons were good, hopefully I will keep on taking it with me and apply it for today and tomorrow.

tomorrow, for me is not something to worry about or look forward to but to have a sense of where that road might take me. It is not where I am standing right now, but it is where I see myself walking to.

I think we all do that except that we really beat ourselves up for our mistakes from the yesterdays and we look too much beyond what we can see of the tomorrows.

For example, if I can only see 50 yards ahead, I can only see 50 yards ahead, there is no point in trying to see 100 yards ahead for I am not psychic...more psychedelic...LOL

in quantum physics, a quark is never here nor never there. Meaning as soon as it is here, it is gone again. And quark is the basis of all matters (so far, that's what they've found). That makes sense when we apply a numerical system to it.

Between 0 and 1, we can fit infinitive numbers between them. But we know that .5, is in the middle. I guess I need to live .5 in my life.

Both the eastern phil and the western phil have pegged life as 0 and 1 as indicated by life and death, yin and yang, and in computer world, they do that as I-O

I = On
O= off

and inbtween them, they are set off by all the I-O combinations...

I know, I just lost you and many others...but I have been thinking about this a lot and it makes sense to me...

to me, that is part of what God represents if I have to say that I believe in a God. God is I-O (alpho and omego) ;God is life and death; God is beginning and the end; God is order and chaos; God is getting it and not getting it.

After all, God IS everything. Love/Hate; life/death; yes/no.

hmmmmm God might be a woman....LMAO.......................

but inbetween those, God gave us a choice...the now...

I don't have a specific religion and I can put "God" with currently. I like them all, and I also don't like them all at the same time. (I just did an I-O. LOL)

But I believe that for all folks, for whatever their "religion" or "faith" takes them, whatever makes them good folks. That IS what I believe in..and I think that IS the now...well, at least for me...

I read Gilgamesh many years ago....have been reading it again recently...

the oldest "novel" ever written, it's taught me how smart the ancients were and still are...seems like they have found the answers already...

I won't bore you or anyone with the details of Gilgamesh...LOL

Anyways, I was just going to say that I really loved this post but then as always, I went over my head...

Living in the Now

By William Q. Judge
There is never any need to worry. The good law looks out for all things, and all we have to do is our duty as it comes along from day to day. Nothing is gained by worrying about matters and about the way people do not respond. In the first place you do not alter people, and in the second, by being anxious as to things, you put an occult obstacle in the way of what you want done. It is better to acquire a lot of what is called carelessness by the world, but is in reality a calm reliance on the law, and a doing of one's own duty, satisfied that the results must be right, no matter what they may be.

The Past! What is it? Nothing. Gone! Dismiss it. You are the past of yourself. Therefore it concerns you not as such. It only concerns you as you now are. In you, as now you exist, lies all the past. So follow the Hindu maxim: "Regret nothing; never be sorry; and cut all doubts with the sword of spiritual knowledge." Regret is productive only of error. I care not what I was, or what any one was. I only look for what I am each moment. For as each moment is and at once is not, it must follow that if we think of the past we forget the present, and while we forget, the moments fly by us, making more past. Then regret nothing, not even the greatest follies of your life, for they are gone, and you are to work in the present which is both past and future at once.

"In him who knows that all spiritual beings are the same in kind with the Supreme Being, what room can there be for delusion and what room for sorrow when he reflects upon the unity of spirit?" In all these inner experiences there are tides as well as in the ocean. We rise and fall. Anon the gods descend, and then they return to heaven. Do not think of getting them to descend, but strive to raise yourself higher on the road down which they periodically return, and thus get nearer to them, so that you shall in fact receive their influences sooner than before.

Rely within yourself on your Higher Self always, and that gives strength, as the Self uses whom it will. The way gets clearer as we go on, but as we get clearer we get less anxious as to the way ahead. If people will only let each other alone and go about their own business quietly all will be well. It is one's duty not to get into the duty of another. And in this it is of the highest importance that we should detach our minds (as well as our tongues) from the duties and acts of others whenever those are outside of our own.

The future then, for each, will come from each present moment. As we use the moment so we shift the future up or down for good or ill; for the future being only a word for the present -- not yet come -- we have to see to the present more than all. If the present is full of doubt or vacillation, so will be the future; if full of confidence, calmness, hope, courage and intelligence, thus also will be the future.

Is not the Self pure, bright, bodiless, and free -- and art thou not that? If you are at all cast down, or if any of us is, then by just that much are our thoughts lessened in power. So I pray you to remove from your mind any distaste for present circumstances. If you can succeed in looking at it all as just what you in fact desired, then it will act not only as a strengthener of your good thoughts, but will reflexly act on your body and make it stronger.

The great struggle must be to open up my outer self, that my higher being may shine through, for I know that in my heart the God sits patient, and that his pure rays are merely veiled from me by the many strivings and illusions that I bring on outwardly. -- Selected from Letters That Have Helped Me

I just wanted to post an Eastern Philosophy about "living in the now" and to say that no matter where one is in the world, East or West, living in the now is not a new concept and how awesome that is...different people coming to the same conclusions...

part of the quote and I'll include the link at the end.

Daoism the philosophy centers around the concept of living in the moment. Enjoying what one has now, and not worrying about the future or living in the past. It also involves looking to nature to show how life really works. A Daoist believes that nature is the guide to find the "Way"

in case you were interested in one of the eastern philosophies
