The elephant hangs around a lot of us. I didn't know what to say, as your pain is very deep. Just wanted you to know that I care. I am so sorry you were treated with such indifference. That makes the load that much heavier. Maybe when we come here to talk about it, things can get better. There should be open discussion on this subject. You have an extended family right here. We can't make up for the family that hurt you, ignored you, but we sure as heck can be here to support you now. I hope your pain is less today, and that hope remains alive. You are in my thoughts. ginnie

Thank you ginnie for your concern what i wrote in this thread happened a long time ago...and time is a great healer.
my reason for writing it was to allow a conversation to take place about the STIGMA of SUICIDE If we talk more about our feelings then the escalation of inner pain may be reduced or even curtailed. My colleague at work has recently lost her son and her life is raw the ELEPHANT is deffinately in her life at present. the saddest thing is when this tradgedy strikes people need to talk..but.not everyone wants to listen...........some cant even bring themselves to offer condolence in fear of being embeded in a conversation that they can't cope with.........[the survivor then feels isolaated even more] talking is the answer........ Someone quoted on this site one time, that suicide only happens when your ability to cope fails. You are so right, talking is the cure, and so is when others truly care about you. When there is love, and a human sharing, even the worst pain a person can cope with better. My own depression lifts, when I am on this site talking to those that care. WE should not be afraid of talking about this. Anyone in severe pain, either emotionally or physically for a long period of time has bleak thoughts. Bring the sorrow into the light and the darkness fades away. ginnie

Never doubt that there is still a stigma regarding suicide.
*Dr. Edward Dunne, an editor of Suicide and Its Aftermath: Understanding and Counseling the Survivors, is a highly regarded clinical psychologist and a suicide survivor himself. He believes that the stigma of suicide is so powerful because people who kill themselves are breaking an unwritten contract that declares we should not be free to leave society at will. "The whole horror of suicide resonates with the most profound existential question of one's life: "Why should I live?" he explains. "To hear that someone has answered no, that someone has broken the rules, is extraordinarily threatening to survivors." *No Time to Say Goodbye" author Carla Fine *************************
