I visited the folks at home at lunch today. Dad showed me the LONG list of mom's medications and I was totally surprised at the one in particular....Celexa!
I asked mom about it and she said, oh they're giving me something because I get so uptight but I don't know what it is. Good grief. So I told her. She was surprised. And I thought...both you and dad should have been on something like this years and years and years ago!

HI everybody. I am just zipping through before I dash to work.
Doody, we send people home all the time to get long term IV antibiotics. They either have an IV specialist company come to the house to administer it or some even learn to do it themselves. They have to have a PICC line to do it, but I imagine your mom might already have one. (It is usually in the upper arm) Just wanted to give that suggestion so that they don't have to drive eveyday. Sorry we haven't been around much - we are worn out with all that is going on but we love you! |

(((Ms. Moss)))
Well, we must have a really strange medical community here. Believe me!...mom (and dad) wanted to do it at home, but medicare won't pay for any of that, not a dime. That's why they are going to the hospital each day. Yes, she has the PICC line. Lordy it is so bruised there. They put the PICC line in last week so the doc could observe her the first few days on the vanco. And I was just thinking only moments ago....boy, those kids (and the upcoming surgery) must be keeping the Mois very very busy!

I'm sorry your mom is still going through all of this. When my mom had bunion surgery as an out-patient, she ended up with a terrible infection that got into the bone. She required more surgery to remove a section of bone in her big toe and then she had to wear a fanny pack with antibiotics for at least 2 months. Every 2nd day she had to go to a hosp. to have the fanny pack replaced. What a hassle. I believe the costs were covered but, then we are in Canada so I know we have different medical coverage.

I couldn't find this thread anywhere. Finally found it on the 2nd page...
Dear Doody, am wondering how your mum is doing this week. Forgive me if you've posted an update elsewhere and I've missed it. |

((Lara)) thanks for asking. She's doing pretty good. Faithfully going to the hospital each day for 2 hours of IV antibiotic treatment. Her arm is still wrapped and she can't extend it, can't touch her nose. Limited use at this point. But she can't have physical therapy yet because of the fragility of the bones still.
And she says she isn't in very much discomfort which is nice. What gets me is that one of the meds they put her on is Celexa. She just thinks it's a pill for her being 'uptight'. Holy cow! I almost laugh at the difference in her attitude! It's a mom I've never ever seen in my 60 years of life! Now if I could get rid of some other worries.

Thanks so much for the update, Doody.
Sounds as if she's doing so much better. Sorry about your other worries. Take care of yourself there. |
