I have tarlov cysts in the low back. I have been unable to walk or stand for more than a few minutes for over a year. The only way to relieve my pain was to sit in a recliner. I couldn't sleep in a bed. The pain in my low back was so
bad that I would push ppl out of the way to get to a chair and relief! I take
2 narcotic strength pain relievers and muscle relaxants with no help!
But then my Dr. tried Lidocaine patches on me! Oh they worked so good on me!
I can be up and around almost like my old self. I still have pain running down my left leg and weakness in that leg. I still have bowel and bladder symptoms.

But Lidocaine patches will cover the pain in my back so I can make meals, get my mail, walk my dog. Yesterday I did a bit of gardening!!

I know all of you here know what it means to be able to have a little bit of your life back as it once was. Even if just a bit. It is worth it to try these patches. They worked right away. I put one on in the morning and off at bedtime. I was able to cut the patches into 1/3 and still get good relief so you can make the prescription stretch more than a month. Just place them
right where it hurts the most in your back.

They are not cure alls. They just gave me the ability to walk and stand again. I hope this is helpful to you all.

I am glad you have been able to find some relieve, I know what it's like, I have had this for over 10 years. I say that because I think it bothered me a lot longer when I was being told it was other medical problems. The doctor I saw told me I probably was born with it.

My guestion is do you think if I put a Lidocane patch on my back over the cyst it would help my legs or am I going to have to put them all over my legs, which is pretty hard to do since both my legs on all areas hurt. I plan on talking to my doctor about the Lidocane patches, since all the other meds she precribed for me didn't work, only made me sick and out of it!

Does insurance cover you patches? I have AARP medcare complete so I'm not sure if it will be covered. Thanks for the information.

I was just given rx for same patches to 'try'. Medicare covered.

I have sciatica (increasing level of pain) I manage w/ OTC and Rx for Gabapentin.
400 mg/ day. (200 a.m. - 200 p.m. )

2 yrs since dx. Had phone consult w/ Dr F in Dallas. 2/2012
No decision as yet for surgery.

Since I'm apparently surrounded by incompetent doctors (spare one doctor), I finally told them that I wanted to be prescribed the Lidoderm patches for the bilateral perineural cysts located at my c5-6 level.

WOW.

I put the patches directly on the source of the pain, and within 15 mins I felt the difference. I'm still in pretty terrible pain, but the fact that I can actually stand up "somewhat" straight is a huge testament to the effectiveness of these patches.
It does wonders for the area it's applied to, but I do still have pain in my shoulder and arm. Granted, any relief is much needed and much appreciated. The only downside is that these are expensive, for those of you who don't have insurance or have bad insurance. Seeing as how I'm a student, and incredibly poor, the 25$ copay is pretty hard on my checkbook but I'm willing to pay it.

I do get a number of trigger point injections, which are lidocaine. not a cure all, but a HUGE help out

my DR prescribed Derma Tran. a company that compounds diff creams for pain relief. it is a godsend! I use derma tran # 7, and it relieves pain., not cheap, but you can do a survey to get it cheaper. It works on all my pains in back, neck and hands. Thank you Derma Tran, and my Dr for the relief

My pain manager prescribed a compounded cream that has ketamine and lidocane in it. It's pricey but goes a long ways. Best thing is since my cyst is on my sacrum I can put this down my crack where a patch won't fit. It helps for a about three hours.

I was diagnosed with Tarlov cysts a year ago but was told it was of no concern. I decided to go back to my primary Dr. and have him refer me to a Dr. that can look at that Pelvic MRI and tell me why are of no concern. I have several at S3 level, 1.4c.
Is that big or small size?

I have Vulvodynia and Small Fiber neuropathy in feet/legs. I'm wondering if the Vulvodynia is a result of having those cysts.

I do have some Lidocaine patches here but not sure exactly where to put them. Can someone advise me or do I have to ask the Dr.

Try reading Tarlov Cyst Foundation website. And you can always call Reta directly. She has history w cysts as well. Very knowledgeable.

Size. Ask her. Mine were cluster of '3 sm 8 mm at S1" symptoms progressing to leg weakness and numbness. Had it off and on but more so lately. Scarey.

I put half patch on cyst area. It does help. Dr said leave off at nite as they could make me wakeful. They don't.
