Default OMG! I've found SUPPORT!!

I've been dealing with non symptomatic perineural cysts as my spine surgeon and pain management doctors have said. For these Cysts to be non symptomatic they sure do cause me a horrendous amount of pain. On my MRI it states the following:
Epidural Scar Tissue at the Left S1 root, L3/L4 mild disc bulge with a superimposed small right posterolateral disc protrusion which minimally displaces the right L4 root, A 2.2 cm perineural cyst on the right at S2 of uncertain clinical significance, A 1.3 perineural cyst on the left at S2.

I'm taking Gabapentin 1800mg daily, Baclofen 20mg daily, percocets 5mg twice daily or as needed. I'm working full time 40-60 hours a week. I'm an industrial firefighter EMT at a large Steel Mill I have a husband and 2 kids.

I had a spinal fusion at L5/S1 in 2008 that I found out in 2012 had failed and I had another fusion done. Now the pain Dr is giving me caudal epidural shots which hurt so bad!

I am so happy I found someone else. I have been doing research on these since I found out in Jan. My MRI was in Nov 2013 but my spine surgeon didn't even mention them. I didn't know about them until I asked for a copy of my MRI report.

I am in the process of seeing a pain management dr who doesn't know anything about them. She is treating me for scar tissue. I just seen her today and she gave me a toradol shot with some kind of steroid in it. I am scheduled for a cortisone epidural June 9. I had one a month ago that didn't work, just made me unable to get out of bed the next day.

I have severe pain in my lower back that goes into my left leg into my ankle and little toe. Sometimes my left leg will just stop working all together. I call it my zombie leg. I have hot burning sensations on my leg and foot along with my vagina area. I get horrible stabbing pains, lightening like down my leg. I feel like I have been kicked in my butt, vagina area, when I sit it hurts so badly like I am sitting on a rock or something very hard. If I stand too long I start to really hurt same with walking. The only position that is comfortable and will relax the pain is laying on my bed in the zero gravity setting. Which is legs up and head elevated and I am on ice!! I also have UTI's every month because I have urine retention and that causes the infection. I have one now and I am so busy working 12 hour days and kids and husband and house that I can't get to the dr for medicine. Hopefully Friday or Monday I can. I have instances with bowel incontinence, not all the time, just occasionally. I also have pain that goes into my right leg just not as severe as the left I don't get zombie leg on the right. Sometimes I think if I were dead there would be no more pain.

I have put on over 40 pounds in less then a year because I am in so much pain after work I just go to my bed on ice and I will eat because I think poor me, I am in pain, I can't do anything, my life sucks but at least I can enjoy this food. I am the heaviest I've ever been in my life even during both pregnancies! I am exhausted, from not sleeping well and "pretending" to be happy and ok. I am not a complainer and I hate to ask for help so I push and I push until I am in tears in pain.

I just wish I could find a dr that knows about these things. I have found one in Dallas Texas, great, I live in Indiana. Not many drs even acknowledge that these cysts can cause pain. sucks.

I am only 39, I don't want to live the rest of my life in pain like this.

You state that you have found a Dr. in Dallas, Texas, but you live in Indiana. What effort would you make to regain the life you had five years ago? I answered that question for myself in 2010, and the effort, inconvenience and expense was worth it. Don't allow the medications to impair your judgment. Take the next step.

I am in Ohio a 56 year old Grandma who used to run around the yard all crazy with my grandkids, work a full time job as an aethetician in a spa and part time singer/actress. We don't need to go in to how much the docs don't believe us. I will just say "Amen sister"! I have a chiropractor who has been a friend for many years and he has told me since these were first discovered on an MRI in March 2013, to do research and that these can be a problem. The MRI was taken because I was in excruciating pain from a huge sequestered disc at L5 S1. I consulted five docs before deciding surgery was the only option. I didn't feel better right away, had some relief at week 7 post op, but when I tried to work for just two hours the wall of pain free living came crashing down. It was determined that this was due to work so I have been on WC. The roller coaster of pain has been quite a ride. You know it well. My Tarlov cysts are almost identical in description of size and location to yours. I have progressively gotten worse and rarely go out of my house. After the last MRI which I had to use my private insurance for because WC denied it TWICE, my pain management doctor said yes there is "scar tissue but the Tarlov cysts are large. This is tricky" "Try this pill for a month then we will send you to a surgeon." I decided to do my own research. As of right now, I have an appointment to see Dr. Feigenbaum in Dallas next week. I do not have money to burn but I can not at this time accept this is as good as it's going to get without trying. I rarely take pain meds. because of how they make me feel and have not found a nerve medication that didn't give me intolerable side effects. It's ice, rest, walk, lie down, ice rest do the dishes, ice,lie down. You know the drill. I don't know how you are doing all you have to do with work and the children at home. It's hard for me to keep up with my 7 grand children and they don't live in my house! I feel that God has opened a door for me to go to Dallas to get at least some answers and hopefully a resolution. Of course those of us who have had surgery don't want to do it again, but I don't see outcomes or any other treatment that is as successful at this time. It is helpful to hear what other people have to say and to share when no one else has a clue and doctors tell you it's an "incidental" finding on an MRI! At least I feel Dr. Feigenbaum won't look at me or treat me like I am lying or trying to fake it so I can stay on WC. I hope the best for you and your search to get your life back-or at least more of it!!
