Hi Hannie,
My recommendation is to discuss the results with a neurologist or neurosurgeon in your area regarding the dural ectasia or look on line under dural ectasia to get an idea what this is. Second, I would contact the Tarlov Cyst Foundation and speak with Reta Honey Hiers to advise you what you need to know about the 2 large Tarlov cysts. Third, see website under Dr. Frank Feigenbaum, neurosurgeon (expert in tarlov cysts) in Dallas, TX for more information regarding Tarlov cysts. What are your symptoms? I have 5 Tarlov cysts from S1-S3. Dr. Feigenbaum recommended surgery and I am contemplating whether to have surgery or not. Most neurologists and neurosurgeons are not familiar with Tarlov cysts and dismiss Tarlov cysts as incidental findings on MRI's. You need the best to find out what options you have to decide. Tarlov Cyst Foundation and Dr. Feigenbaum are the best resources for finding information.
I hope this helps you to get started decifering your MRI results.

Default Hi Hannie

I think the one post to do the research will help you the most first. You have to find out where in your area of the world that they work with these cysts etc.
If your neuro can make no recommendation, NT even on that side of the world can help direct you. Travel to where you have to Hannie to get the help and information you need. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. ginnie

I definatly will have to look into this as it is going on for way too long now and my own GP does not seem one bit interested either in it, so am at a total dead loss on this.

This is what I found out on line katheryn

Dural ectasia is widening or ballooning of the dural sac surrounding the spinal cord. This usually occurs in the lumbosacral region, as this is where the cerebrospinal fluid pressure is greatest, but the spinal canal can be affected in any plane.

Default Hi Kathryn

Think one of Hannies problems is her location. No good neuros evidently in her area. Your post was super, but what if she can't find a this type of special doctor in Ireland? Her GP is at a loss and hit or miss on a doctor isn't a good idea. Does NT. on its cyst site list doctors in that particular country.? Is there an international site for this? Anyway I am trying like you to help Hannie. I know so little about this condition, but I sure know being alone with a problem isn't so fun. Thanks for your post to her. ginnie

Hi Hannie,
Another contact is AIMIS Spine Institute. This place does Tarlov Cyst Surgery and is where Dr. Feigenbaum performs surgery. Dr. F. takes patients from around the world on this site. If you contact Reta Honey Hiers at Tarlov Cyst Foundation she can give you additional information regarding AIMIS.
I hope this helps.

Hi Ginnie,
Thank you for your concern and care to notify me and Hannie. I posted to Hannie that AIMIS Spine Institute could possibly help her. This institute takes patients from around the world for Tarlov cyst surgery and Dr. Feigenbaum is one of the surgeons. I hope it helps Hannie.
