I have nothing of any value here except my dogs so as long as they don't hurt me or them they can have what they want!

you are absolutely right about STUFF dejibo. Things are not worth getting hurt or your life. Family and my dogs are another story. I would get hurt trying to protect them. They can not be replaced.

Don't worry, I'm not stooooopid and I do use reasonable caution— it's a lot cheaper than fortification and easier on my spirit.

I just don't want another's blood on my hands for any reason. :Dunno:

ETA: In my other life, I was a deadeye markswoman but only at the range. :)

Well, if I'm not home, I can't kill them. but if I am home, it's them or me. I have no problem shooting anyone who wants to do me harm - parlty because I have a young daughter and a little granddaughter who may be in that house, too. If someone would break in and harm me, my girls (and boys) are not safe.

That makes me mad.

You do NOT mess with my kids. End of story.

They will not hear me cock my weapon, btw. I will not try to scare them off. There will be one account of that break in, and it will be mine - there will be nothing left of an intruder but a chalk outline if I have my way.

This is in no way being a vigilante - this is my right to protect my home and family as an American. I'm not out walking the streets, looking for trouble.

The saying in this county...I'll shoot them even in the yard...drag em in the house, then back in the yard....My explanation will be.

Officer, they made it through the front door, where I warned them I was armed and told them to freeze, they didn't, I then proceeded to shoot four shots, all which hit within the chest area. He then lived long enough to try to craw outside and made it to where you now see him lying while I called 911, however it was too late when they arrived. End of Story.

That's easy officer, after the first shot, he kept coming towards me and I fired three more shots in rapid succession and they turned him around at which time he stumbles out the door...ifn he had kept on twitching, I would have put two more in him, but he stopped when he got to this point.

People that break into your house are not there for conversation, and even if you give them what they ask no guarantee you will be living when they leave. If you don't have what they want, definitely no guarantees you will live within five minutes. Neither of my pistols make a noise when you cock them and one holds fifteen rounds...so unless there are more than fifteen, I think I'm ok, the other is a six shooter...John Wayne style...I pray and hope I never have to use either, but I definitely will if need be.

Amen.

With a police officer son I hear first hand some pretty scary stories of how people in "nice" neighborhoods are invaded in their homes by desperate, drug addicted thugs who'll do anything for their next fix.

If someone wants to unlawfully enter my home on their terms to do harm to me, my family or my pets......they'll be leaving on my terms......and they might not live to tell about it.

In FL, I'm told the laws have just changed due to the amount and level of violence in the home invasions. No longer does the criminal have to be inside, armed and have you in a corner before you can legally use lethal force. All he has to be is on your property without a good reason. If you feel he's trespassing and you feel threatened, you can shoot to kill.

I think that's fair.

I don't think I should have to cowar in my bathtub while some guys jimmy my windows, hoping my 911 call goes through and the cops make it 20 miles and find these guys and save me.

After all, it's my house, I know it better than they do and I should have the element of surprise on my side. and the last thing these crack heads expect is some 100 lb granny firing back at them.

If they thought this was going to happen at every other house, there would be a whole lot fewer break ins.

Even back in Ohio where the laws are not like in FL, I would tell the truth. Wherever they are when I shot them, however it was. I'd rather be alive and well in jail then beaten, stabbed, raped and left for dead or have anything happen like that to my family. I seriously doubt, however, knowing the courts in my area, that I'd get much time if any, for shooting a burglar.

I'm 5'1", mid 40's, never had a speeding ticket. The judges arouund my house would understand.
