My daughter and I are both sorting and consolidating, and she said she didn't want her little china tea set. It's just a cheapy set, nothing special, and I thought I'd give it to one of the little girls in town.

I was wondering what age little girl to give it to (can't imagine giving essentially glass dishes to a three-year-old) and then it occurred to me: do little girls even HAVE tea parties anymore? Or is that in the category of black & white TV and record albums?

Tea parties are still very "in," especially for the 4-6 year-old crowd. My daughter has even been to a good number of tea party birthday parties. The best things just never go out of style.

There is a store in Georgia that caterers to little girls tea parties. It's quite fashionable. I think it's a wonderful idea to give the tea set away. Those were the days when the big event was a tea party, just you and your dollies. :-)

I remember my tea set as being metal and brightly colored (probably lead paint). Grandma made brownies and All my dolls attended..

Thank you, that's good news! I think I know just the little girl; I think she's about six.

I have my mother's little tea set (what's left of it) from around 1918. Mine was plastic, and I remember having real tea (mostly milk and sugar, with a tea bag trolled through it once) and oyster crackers.

I don't believe my dolls were ever invited to the party. I had an imaginary friend. In fact, several.

I love the popcorn (I think it is Orville Redenbachers) commercial with the little girl having a tea party with popcorn and the dad and brother smell the popcorn and want some and she tells them only if you are at the tea party. In the next scene, they are wearing boas and frilly hats and sitting on the tiny chairs sipping faux tea and eating popcorn.

Now I'm missing all those tea parties I had with my DD. See she's 10 now and we only get to have one every once in a great while on the front lawn. Of course our Build A Bear teddy bears are always invited.

Ooops, sorry, I got OT. I agree 4-6 is the right age where girls are really into tea parties. That's sweet of you to want to give the set to a little girl who will have some fun using it.

I still have my blue willow/china? tea set. Well, its not much of a "set" anymore cuz I let my girls play with it before they were ready.

I know mine did. Maybe the little girl would enjoy having a little tea party with you and taking the little tea set home afterwards,,, a lot of little girls probably don't know how unfortunately.

Have you done an Ebay search or Christies search to be sure that set isnt worth thousands of dollars?

If not, send it off as a wonderful present, but a complete set from 1918 may just be valueable. Worth a quick peek at Ebay.
