Default Road Trip

We are headed to Charleston, SC and the Folly Beach area in about 3 weeks! Can anyone let us in on some fun/interesting/neat things to do in that area? Maybe some Mom and Pop places to eat? We've never been to that area and are really excited about going!

Oh, hello! Ft. Sumter where the Civil War began! (I'd be remiss if I did not promote our beloved National Parks system.)

Thanks for the links!
Ft Sumter was on our TO DO List already! I just love things like that... and I think my 12 yr old son will love it too.
We are also planning to fish off of the pier in Folly Beach!

They have a fire engine museum. I hear its quite the sight to see. Make sure to look for it. The 12 y/o would like that I bet.

LOADS to do down there. tons of good places to eat as well.

We did vacation down there a few years ago. It was lovely, especially coming from Maine and wintery weather!

We rented a house right on the beach with a crowd of family members. We did more cooking and eating at home than eating out but did go to a seafood place for a celebratory dinner one night. (we were there for a Citadel graduation)

I spent most of my days on the beach, I was doing an oral course of steroids prior to starting Tysabri, so I wasn't at my best, but we did a trip to a lighthouse that is nearby, fished from the beach rather than the pier (they charged to fish off the pier) and did a little shopping and lunch one day on the main street of town. The place where we ate on the main drag there was delicious and not too high priced. The weather was gorgeous, the beach was spectacular and the water was warm.

I had a thread on it on here but it appears it has been archived and I am not sure how to find it now!

Have fun and take lots of pics! We wanna go too!

I've been to FB once and several of the other islands over the past few years. One thing we never miss is going into Charleston and hitting the shops that are in the covered market. I love to watch the women creating the sweetgrass baskets. They're expensive, but they're works of art. This year, my sister and I took two pre-teens with us and even they had a great time looking at all the stuff. I always get a lot of Christmas shopping done there too! It's not just souvenirs. http://charlestonlowcountry.com/spec...itymarket.html

As far as the rest of the time, we never left the island and pretty much cooked in or bought shrimp from the boats. So much to do right there at the beach. The early morning is a great time to go out and check for starfish washing up. The ice cream shop right in the middle of the town is a great evening break too. Fishing from the pier was great too.

If you are into touring - take the time to see one of the old plantations.

Hope you have a wonderful trip - it's a great time of year to visit the lowcountry...one of my favorite places in the world!
