Default Am I THAT behind the times?

Probably they don't even use that expression anymore, behind the times. But anyway...

My daughter was here and decided to go have lunch with friends. She wanted to shower first, so I said, "You know where the towels are, there's the shampoo, here's my deoderant...."

She grabbed my trusty old Ban Unscented and looked at it as if it were a garter belt or an 8-track tape. "Roll on?" she chortled. "They still MAKE that?"

Hello? What did I miss?

When I WAS A Girl we wore garters belts to keep our stockings up, no stockings until 5th grade for me and only very special occasions, belted pads and galoshes over our shoes. They had us skinny little girls wear girdles too . OMG, I'm old like I thought my mother was!! I told DD I thought her dance dress was too short though she did look cute. In Junior High pants on girls were not allowed, but mini-skirts came in and they checked the length of your skirt. Pants started looking good to them then. Ah, the 60', only almost 50 years away.

Cell phones were SOOOO big and only the wealthy had them. Those boomerang looking antennas on cars that had car phones? My kids have their own computers and want laptops. I once learned how to computer card punch. I know how to iron, doubt DD can. I've become an antique!!!

I remember all of those although I'm sure I am much younger than you!

I can even add one to it:

When I was in school girls weren't allowed to participate in sports because it may have harmed our "female reproductive organs".

Yeah right... like we would pop an ovary!

B2Y, my Mom used Ban roll-on!! I had to laugh because I hated that stuff. It never dried....I'd walk around with my arms out forever waiting to put on a shirt!! I remember finally buying my own solid roll-on. My Mom never changed brands.....she always used Ban.

I thought I was supposed to turn into my OWN Mom, but I turned into Kitty's Mom!

I don't think Ban was invented when I was a kid. My Mom used "Mum". It was in a little jar, and you dipped your finger in it and smeared it on your pits. Bleah.

I stand corrected. The brand "Ban" rolled out (couldn't resist) in 1952. I was two. "Mum" was invented in 1888, the year my Grandma was born.

Maybe it's because there wasn't the wide assortment of choices we have today.......but my Mom was loyal to several brands and I can't remember her ever using anything else. Ban roll-on was one of them. Dial soap (the orangy/gold bar), and Tide laundry detergent. Those three things I could always count on seeing in our home. Oh, and Excedrin. Always a bottle of Excedrin in the kitchen window sill.
