First night

Well, the first night on C-Pap went--badly. I woke up all night long trying to get used to the thing. It stopped my snoring and I felt my sleep was better but I woke about 4 times adjusting it. Once it fell off. I need to keep some water by my bed as I got very thirsty and dry mouth. My nose is very raw today, how do you fix that? I am using the humidifier and I am not sure if that is the cause. I am sure it will get better with time.

I found it very challenging to get the head straps adjusted. Keep trying!

i couldn't tolerate it. i sleep on my side and no matter what mask i tried i couldn't sleep. and i already have a sleep disorder.

then i got a sinus infection from the pressure up my nose and that never happens to me. i was miserable for wks. i just couldn't do it.

i use plain oxygen at nite but still am very uncomfortable with the cannula.
at least my oxygen saturations came up.

Same here, doydie.

Earl, try adjusting the humidifer setting, you just might need more humidity.

Try getting the adjustment comfortable for you before you fall asleep. If it's falling off you have it too loose. A snug fit will sometimes be better for comfort as well as for the humidity.

Hang in there, Earl. It can get better as you get the hang of the best fit for you and humidity.

Sometimes I need a higher humidity setting and sometimes the humidity setting needs to be lower.

I have also found if I use a face moisterizer before bed the mask fits better. I know, your going to tell me guys don't moisterizer but try it anyway ;)

Ok, so it's getting better. I keep a bottle of water by my bed and drink from it when my mouth gets dry. It still falls off each night at least one, sometimes twice.

What do you do to help the nose and mouth from becoming chapped? Also, do you have any suggestions for keeping it on all night?

Earl, I don't have any info specific to the pillows, but I wonder if your mouth is getting dry because you are breathing through it instead of your nose???

I never did get used to using the humidifier (felt like I was drowning). I'm just used to the dry desert air, I guess. Occasionally when my nasal passages are sensitive, I swab inside my nose with Vaseline to keep it moisturized.

Keep trying!

I just make sure I use normal saline mist every night in my nose and some chapstick for my lips. As far as keeping it on, it just takes time. Probably for about 6 months I would wake up and find it all on the floor. Now after 2 years I rarely find it off. Good luck. You're doing all the right things.
