Default What do little kids eat?

My 3 yr old granddaughter is at that stage where she is so picky I fear she'll starve to death. I know, they never do, but still how frustrating!

I mean, have you ever seen a kid turn down mac n cheese?

What do you feed these little beasties?

I don't care if it's even good for her, as long as she puts it in her precious pie hole.



Nothing is nutritious if it goes in the trash anyway.

Does she like peanut butter? Maybe those kids dinners in the frozen foods section? My kids never went through a stage like this.......they always ate just about anything (and everything ).

When she gets hungry enough she'll eat. But if she goes longer than you think is normal I'd have her checked out by her pediatrician just to make sure nothing's wrong.

When my kids were little, if all else failed they would eat ramen noodles...or cheese pizza (but don't get them wet or feed them after midnight..ROFL)..

I have one of those Cathy. He is getting slightly better at age 6 but not
much. He doesnt eat mac and cheese either. The good new
is he eats a bunch of raw veggies and most any fruit. Its the protein and
carbs that are a problem. My 11 year old was like that but about 2 years
ago it changed for the better.

I would give her a multi vitamin and go with the flow....I hope it changes
soon.

Make it yourself foods. My DD doesn't like spaghetti sauce but if she gets to make her own pizza she will eat the whole thing. There is a great disney princess gummy vitamin. She thinks it's candy. We also do the carnation instant breakfasts on those days that mine refuses to eat. If you can get her to help with fruit smoothies:

Here's our recipe:
* Bag of frozen fruit- Target has a great one with mangos and strawberry and blueberry.
* Whatever fresh fruit you have around- Banana is yummy
* a small container of yogurt- any flavor
* a cup of juice- apple or cranberry seem to be our fav
* Ice
Toss is all in the blender. And whatever doesn't get devoured we pour into freezer pop trays and she has them after school for a snack.

But with these you get two servings of fruit and a serving of dairy and the fruits are all mostly high fiber.

Hope this helps. Dried fruit snacks are a winner here too. They even sell them at the dollar store!

Simplify! Make her finger foods like cut up bites of things to put on crackers or to dip into another tasty something.

Give her your full attention at a few meals and help her come up with ideas for "combo bites" by mixing it up a little. Make "happy" food, cut smiling faces into the apple slice or make a cold cheese strip with pretzel sticks to look like candles, etc.

Above all, avoid the packaged dinner stuff, my bet is that her little buds can taste all the additives. Go natural, if she learns to eat the right stuff now, it will be her lifetime habit.

YES! My cousin's child was SO picky for the first 8-9 years of his life - we were all certain he wasn't getting enough nutrition but the doctors assured us he was doing fine. The little guy ONLY ate yogurt, mini-pancakes, fish sticks, apple sauce and some sort of packaged veggie soup broth (can't remember the brand). That was it. He's now a happy, healthy, intelligent and physically active 15 YO.

My 3-year old niece is the same way! When I had her for a week this past summer I had to get creative. She is really in to fairies and princesses. On the 1st day as I was making lunch we talked about fairy food - what fairies ate and why that was a good thing to eat. She was totally in to it and ate all sorts of things she never would have eaten before. All week long everything was fairy/princess food.

Funny thing happened though, I made pita bread pizzas and called it fairy pizza. She loved it. Then her brothers came one day and wanted pizza so I made it again but made the mistake of calling it by it's real name - Cowboy pizza. Wouldn't you know that girl would not eat it at all. She didn't want any "cowboy food." LOL It was the same dang thing. (Whole wheat pita pockets taken apart - 2 pizza's per pita, BBQ sauce, chicken, cheese)

Disney dot com has some great recipes. Go to the site with her and talk about which recipe sounds good to her. Let her help make the decisions.

Almost all kids do this kind of stuff. DDs have been through and it went in phases. Generally, kids won't starve themselves. Eventually they get hungry enough to eat.
