Default Advice needed on Steam Mops

Hey everyone. Most of my home is tile floors and I have been using the Swiffer Wet Jet for a few years now. I am tired of buying the pads and I don't think it does a good enough job. I have been seeing ad's for the "Shark steam mop" on TV for a while, Do any of you have one? what do you think?

Does anyone else have a steam mop or suggestion for keeping my floors clean? Thanks.

You might still be able to find a thread I posted a month or so ago in Stumble in on same topic.

I bought one - Shark - and love love love it.

$70, comes with 2 pads, going to get a couple extras.

I do not have ceramic but vinyl and wood - the wood is 125 yrs old, never been refinished. That's where the birds are and it was a serious mess. I would be careful doing what I did on wood with almost no varnish, but that floor is so bad it couldn't make it any worse.

I steamed super hard on the bird droppings, and they did not seem to come off. But when I took a paper towel, they were all loose and wiped right off. I got that floor clean in like 1/2 hr, 45 mins, and normally it's 2 hours and I'm ruined. This was no effort and that floor never looked better.

My kitchen floor is so easy, not even funny. Jelly, syrup, right off. And the floor dries almost right behind you. Put it this way - do the bathroom and by the time I hand wash the pad, fill the tank to do the kitchen, the bath floor is dry and can put the rug and trash can back in there.

It's so easy it's fun to do.

I would say for vinyl and wood, it would be all I need to clean floors except a couple corners, I Qtip the fuzzies out.

WAY better than swiffer, and I WAS a huge fan. All you need to keep buying for this is the distilled water, which is healthier and cheaper than all the swiffer refills. And you could use plain water if you had to, but distilled keeps the machine from getting lime build up, lasts longer.

If you get one, let us know how it does on your grout. If you order (I think QVC sells them) you have 30 to return if you don't like it - then you're only out shipping.

I have the Shark and regret buying it. Let me tell you, the pumping action required tires me out and I don't have a physical issue. However, if a workout is what your seeking, go for it! LOL

Seriously, it cleans very well but I haven't picked it up in months because of that darn pumping to clean.

Here is a list of the top 5 steam mops that may help: http://housekeeping.about.com/od/sur...psteammops.htm

I wish I had bought the Eureka Enviro Steamer instead of the Shark. AND it's cheaper $$!

Here's the old thread Brain started back in August.

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...m+mop%2C+shark

I have a shark Steam Mop and love it. My only suggestion is to buy extra pads. Mine came with two and I need more than that.

One thing you must do.......when you wash the pad don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets. I just wash them separately.

Don't you guys get tired with the pumping action on the Shark? Maybe it's because my whole house is bare floors and by the time I get them cleaned I am tuckered. lol

It all sounds like too much work for me..

I use my own homemade swiffer type mop. I can use it from my scooter.

I've been thinking about a steamer too , so please share your thoughts.

I have laminate floors with pets, and we're out in the country so we get a lot of dirt , grease and grime......guys work on cars & trucks in the shop and that crud gets tracked in too.

The trigger/pumping thing is something that I would not like - due to the repetitive factor - thanks for mentioning it.

I bought a Shark steam mop at Target, and I just love it. I have wood, linoleum, and laminate floors, and it works great on all three.

I can't mop the entire house at one time, I breat it up into about three days.

I also used the Swiffer products, but got tired of buying refills that kept getting more expensive.

I also use a Bissell Easy Vac. It's very light, great on uncarpeted floors, and picks up dog hair like mad. [/I]

The pumping action on the shark Steam Mop is very easy. At least it is for me. There's no resistance in the handle while makes it very easy to do. My whole house is hardwoods except for the bedrooms and I use the steam mop on the wood floors. Much easier than Swiffering or damp mopping.
