I'm just thinking of pinning a note to my lapel......

"Please do not take offense if I do not offer my hand when meeting... but I'd rather avoid the swine flu feeling"

When I worked the tandem window at the McDonald's I used to work at, what I hated were the people who would hold the money in their mouth (ewww...disgusting on more than one level) and then they would hand it to me...wet side first!! EWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!

Oh, and the people who would put change in their mouth and then hand me wet coins....ewwww...I just left the coins on the windowsill and would hand it out to the next car as their change. (we had hand sanitizer on the wall outside that drive-thru window...and this was in the early 90s)

The other thing I hated...money with fresh blood on it. I would outright refuse it. Spit is one thing...Blood. On. Money. Can I vomit now?

If they didnt have anything but the bloody money, I'd ask the managers if I could comp their order because I wasnt touching bloody money. Usually the management let me do it...or they'd tell the customer "sorry, since we're a restaurant, we dont have the capability to accept money with fresh blood on it due to health code..." or some crap like that.

Seriously...if you're bleeding, go get a band-aid, or stitches or something...dont suddenly have a Big Mac attack on your way to the hospital.

Dear Erin,

That's a whole new meaning for "blood money." I just can't get my head around that - people can be so disgusting. It's no wonder things spread like wildfire.

I'd just be honest and do the fist bump and smile.

Sally, my doctor shook my hand the other day. It's all good he washed his hands right after we were done so that told me he washed before he came to see me. I had also used sanitizer before and after our "talk" too. It was the first time I'd seen him so doing the fist bump seemed odd with someone who would be holding my life in his hands. haha

The national news and the Prez are trying to scare the **** out of me, with this swine flu thingy. They reported a 1000 people had died, since the start, in april.

The spokesperson for the CDC said that the swine flu is not any more virilant than the other flu bugs. She said that every year, about 25000 people die from the regular flu bugs, so 1000 deaths in 6 mos is light, in comparison.

I think we should practice cleanliness and carefullness, all the time, but we do build up immunity without being a fanatic about it..

From right now, I quit worrying, except for all our young ones, who may be effected and seem to suffer the worst.

They're supposed to take the gloves off whenever they handle money, and put on fresh gloves when they're working with food. (that's after washing their hands)

When I worked at McD's, it was so long ago (I worked there from 89 - 96), that they didnt have the rule that you had to wear gloves when handling food, unless you were making the salads. (I was the person who made the salads whenever I worked the early shifts) I was really pretty good about washing my hands...better than a few of the other people I worked with. I learned to sneeze into my shirt rather than into my hand or elbow. I'd rather pull my shirt over my nose and mouth and sneeze that way, instead of getting it onto my hands. I'd still go and wash my hands as soon as I could...or at least get a squirt of sanitizer goo.

We did have some people who didnt like handling the food without gloves on, so they'd wear the plastic, disposable salad gloves. I dont think they were worried about transferring their germs to the food. I think it was more of a phobia for handling hamburger meat (this was back when e Coli was becoming more prevalent)

Exclamation

Egads.... in public I have been vomited upon.

I have seen people take money out of their shoes, or bras.

I have received money that reeked of MJ.

But I have never received money with blood on it, or that has recently been in the mouth. (I used to work midnights, and many strange things happen then).

That is soooooo grooossssss! money in the mouth? Blood?
eeeeuuuuuuuwwwwww!

Yeah and you know they know that! Thing is they are a local restaurant and we all grew up with the owners' kids so it puts us in a tough position. It's been a part of all of our lives that we just don't let it phase us and let it slide. Maybe someone who is not a "regular" will report 'em. Otherwise we're all building up a huge immunity to lots of germs.
