Does anybody take lorazepam in the daytime? I take a tiny dose at bedtime, but am thinking of asking my PCP about increasing the dose a little bit. I'm having kind of a rough time with anxiety lately, and I can't seem to calm myself down. Usually I can take a few deep breaths, pray, think lovely thoughts, listen to music, etc. and "snap out of it", but not right now.

I've taken lorazepam before. I hate taking it full strength tho. (makes me feel really weird sometimes)
I bought a pill splitter and use that to break the lorazepam up so that I can just take a small amount. (my Rx is .5mg...I think...or is it 5mg? probably the 5mg) I had some anxiety over the summer, just before I had a really bad double vision episode that lasted about a month. I dont know what triggered the anxiety, if it was because my body sensed I was about to have an exacerbation, or if it was from some other reason. The lorazepam helped, and I didnt take it every day, just when I felt the overwhelming anxiety hit. I didnt seem to have any problem with it's addictive properties. I think I still have about 9 pills left out of my 20 pill Rx. I didnt take any of it at full strength except for one night when I just could not relax and ended up taking one whole pill just so I could sleep. I did take it during the day a few times, but never at full strength. I used my splitter to break it in half, and then broke the halves in half, took 1/4 of the pill instead of the whole thing.

I only take it when I get my MRI's done and that's usually in the day.
But, I would recommend that you talk to your dr as there may be something else that is more appropriate for you and your situation. This may or may not include medications and/or counseling. Additionally, this may be related to the MS, possibly a new lesion or an old one becoming active, depending on the location. I do hope you start to feel better soon. ![]() ![]() |

I tried buspirone (buspar) once, and I can't remember why it didn't work out for me.

I took buspar - a long time ago. It was okay for a while, then it seemed like I just felt weird. Like any minute, all the anxiety it was holding back was going to crash down on me. Scary feeling. I got off it, went to counseling and faced what was stressing me (long story, but a really bad time in my life).
I feel about that stressed now, too. Can't sleep, can't think, so tired and edgy. Partly situational now too, but also the time of year when I just feel crummy. I think you have good instincts, B2Y, and if you feel a small increase would help you, you should ask.

I take Xanax at night, but i wont hesitate to take a half one or even a whole one during the day if I am struggling After all, that is what its there for!
If you are struggling with anxiety, please dont suffer. Do nice things to baby, and pamper yourself. From a nice cup of tea, and a chick flick movie, to a tablet of whatever meds to help calm you. As long as its not so dopey that you cant function, which most meds rarely do at lower levels. I would be lost without mine somedays. Aaaaahhhh...Xanax. ![]()

I used to take xanax back in the day. It was the smallest dosage. I'd break it into quarters, and I still was falling asleep sitting up at the supper table. I wasn't anxious, though.

Actually Buspar stopped working for me, after about a year....Neuro/Psych then put me on Paxil. It worked wonders for my anxiety and DP for about six years, then petered out. My PCP put me on Prozac and the rest is history..so far..
![]() The thing about all of these kinds of meds is, that they don't all work for everybody, but when you find the one that works for you, it's life saving.. ![]()

I have been on Lorazepam for about 25yrs.
The dr. has changed the dose on and off during the years and when and how many times a day to take. Today I take 1 everynight before bed. If I need to take one during the day I will take it. I am on only 1mg. It has worked for me. There were times during the years when I didn't have to take any on some given days. Hope you find the one that will work good for you. Like Sal said, meds work different for everyone. Jappy ![]() |
