Default Speaking of cars....

Remember when I had to call the county I moved out of 2 yrs ago and the man asked me if I took the car with me when I moved?? Then the second lady asks me for proof that I moved...even though they sent the bill to my new address??

Went to renew my tags on Monday and was told I cannot renew them until Hanover County releases the hold on my account. Yesterday, armed with a copy of my lease to prove I live here, I set out on the journey to get this matter resolved. Of coure my setting out was delayed an hour or so while I waited for the tow truck to come open my door after I locked my keys in the car...

Make it down to Hanover, lease in hand to be told that according to DMV I own 2 vehicles not 1. The first vehicle I signed over to the dealership in Aug of 2007, two weeks before I bought vehicle #2 form the dealership I worked at. They cannot take the tax hold off of this car until DMV releases me as an owner.

Back to DMV I go (which by the way is yet another county away!). I explain the situation to them and inform them that I turned in the tags and the registration back in AUG of 07. They say well, we see you turned in the tags but we have no record of the registration...which was in the same envelope! So now I have to call the Saturn dealership in northern VA to get a copy of the title that I signed over.

I then have to take this paperwork to DMV so they can release ownership, take the release back to Hanover so they can release the tax hold and then go back to DMV and FINALLY get my tags.

Then as I am leaving the parking lot some 60 miles from home the school calls to tell me DD is sick and I need to come get her! In the process of hightailing it back to get her, my car starts leaking coolant! The day went downhill from there. I was never so happy to be home and in my bed as I was last night.

Today, I call the dealership to request this paperwork... They are no longer in business. They were bought out by another dealership and have no idea how to obtain a copy of the title transfer!

Now I get to go back to DMV wait in line again, pay to do a title search to see who the car is titled to and try to go from there.

Some days you just have to accept defeat... I am tempted to crawl back in my bed and forget abotu it until Monday!

4 hours 2 trips to the county buolding and 3 trips to DMV, and $150 later... my $64 debt that I actually owed is paid in full...along with interest charges, a $40 charge to release the DMV hold, and I finally got my tags! And I have been on my feet all day and I can barely walk now... JOY! That ok DD gets home in about 20 minutes then I can resume my position on the couch
