Here's the hat I crocheted. It's a crummy picture, since I have an extremely ugly model. (ok, it's a skull decoration from Halloween...it's creepy...the skull, not the hat)
I'll have to get a better picture later. (if this creeps people out too much, tell me and I'll find a better picture so that my model, Polonius, doesnt cause anyone to have nightmares)

The hat is pretty comfy and warm for an acrylic yarn, but my scary skull is scaring me!!
I have another skull (Yorick...he's made out of a rubber like material and is hollow and squishy) is much more friendly looking...I just cant find Yorick anywhere, and he wouldnt fit the hat as well as Polonius does. Why am I suddenly in the mood to watch "Hamlet"? (Mel Gibson's version)

I dont know. I'm not exactly sure what this type of hat is called...hat with flaps is what I'm calling it.
The basic part of the hat is based on another hat style called a "cloche", I just used that as a basic recipe for crocheting the crown of the hat, and then "yarn doodled" the rest of the hat by trial and error. I'm knitting a scarf to match it now. If I finish it before Christmas, I might give the hat and scarf to my mom as a present. I'm going to the (fancy, expensive) yarn store later to buy my dad a set of nice knitting needles for a Christmas present (yes, my dad knits too) so I might buy a skein of wool yarn and try this hat again in wool (warmer than acrylic yarn that I used for this first one) My left hand is (hopefully) letting up on the numbness some and it's gotten easier to crochet the past couple of days. Hopefully it's not the MS Trolls playing a cruel joke on me just before they make it feel worse again.

Looks good! I thought about trying wool too - for the warmth - but then, are there any you can wash? I was leaning toward just lining items with fleece if needed. I don't think I'm gonna make it to the crafts store again before xmas. I was rather planning to snag some yarn online - they have a better selection anyway. And ds just torqued my computer, so I'll be able to shop w/o bogging the thing down now.

I think super wash wool is one that you can wash and not worry about an adult sized hat turning into a Barbie Doll hat.
I kind of want a chunky yarn for the next one. A lot of the non-acrylic yarns always seem too thin for me. I wonder if my dad would mind if I stole a skein of his wool/acrylic blend yarns that he has in his stash. Half his stash came from my stash, so I dont think he'd mind as long as he doesnt have an active project using that yarn. We're going to get another storm tomorrow (ice rain and sleet. that's worse than snow!) so hopefully I'll get up early enough before all the nasty starts dropping out of the sky to get to the yarn store.

yeah, but Elmer Fudd hats have a bill on the front of the hat, kinda like a baseball cap.
I'm off to finish an afghan. (red, white and blue afghan, my favorite color scheme for an afghan)

I bet Old Navy has a name for your hat... that style is crazy popular right now.
