Do any of you here that have young children or grandchildren have gift suggestions for a 4 year old girl that spends most of her time reading books and going to the library?
I am having a difficult time trying to figure out what to get her for Christmas. She also likes playing dress up and watching kiddie movies. There are probably things out there that I am not aware of and any help would be appreciated. gmi |

There are some really nice digital cameras made for this age group. I think it is Fisher Price who makes them. They are plastic and heavy duty. A quiet, creative child would love this I would bet. If I had a grandchild this age, this would be a potential gift.

There is a series of books called "Fancy Nancy." She loves to dress up too. And you can also get Fancy Nancy dress up clothes, accessories, etc. My niece loves her books. She also is really into horses. Play Mobile has a horse ranch that she thinks is really cool.

I got DD one of those digital cameras. they are called kid tough cameras. Run about 30-40 bucks. She LOVES it...but it takes tiny pictures, great for beginners though.I hear they were working on a waterproof version that you can take underwater, still waiting for it to come out.
Easy arts and crafts books are a hit as well as most of the craft kits. One great thing about five below stores they have a huge selection of arts and craft stuff. DD is 5 now she likes making soap and magnets and anything she can paint. She is beginning to like pottery now. Oh the beginner sewing kits (they are like big foam pre punched pieces with the plastic needle that you use yarn with (she loves these too!)

She sounds like my DD was! My DD loved dressing up and books were, and still are, her favorite thing. That age was so much fun. We had tea parties and played dress up. Since I couldn't fit into her dress up clothes all I ever got to wear was a hat.
My SIL got my daughter a chest (cardboard) of dress up clothes that came with plastic shoes which were a part of the Disney princess stuff. There are also just shoes sold separately. How about a pair of wings, a wand, costume jewelry, anything that she can use for dress up. Another idea for books is a gift card to a book store, even for just one book, so she can have the fun of picking out a book. |

As a major book lover and lover of the outdoors, my opinion is to encourage physical activities to complement her indoor adventures. A couple picture books about her local animals, birds & bugs along with a little pair if binoculars would serve her passion for reading and help expand her horizons.
When one of my nieces turned 4, she begged for a microscope. My sister got her a kid friendly real one with plastic slides and everything. She's 9 now and still uses it for exploring everything from her painted fingernail clippings to her dinner crumbs, and to bugs & rocks.

I got her Cinderella, a pop up book by Matthew Reinhart from hsn.com too. That is simply amazing. We have 2 other ones, Peter Pan and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Robert Sabuda. Incredible. I want to keep collecting these for her. They go about $25 -30 each, but so worth it. You get a half hour or so of quiet, one-on-one time, lost in a fantasy - what's not to love? Even the adults sit and read them. I guess the *big* movie this year is the Princess and the Frog. We haven't seen it yet, but it looks like fun, and of course all the toys and trimmings are out - clothes, dolls, bedding, you name it. Since we missed that boat, but she is really into princesses of all kinds, I got her Snow White, Belle, and Beast dolls - had to order the last two but Snow white is still in stores. And Three Princess bed with bedding. She loves anything fairy, dinosaur, animal, coloring related, toy jewelry and even pretty clothes. She's starting to really pretend with baby dolls and has always loved a tea party with stuffed dogs, cats, lions, whatever. For great neice, I got Littlest Pet Shop and princess socks. Greath nephews are getting big pack of Hot Wheels and dinosuar flashlight. I love shopping for the little ones. ~Now you can see why I'm so tired. I spend a LOT of time playing and picking up toys.~
