I just talked to my sister in Alexandria, VA and she said they're having a blizzard! She said it's at least 3 feet....in drifts!

Dej, you're so right. Just the mention of the "S" word here in GA sends people into a panic. And we definitely cannot drive in the stuff. We can barely drive in the rain......add frozen precip to the mix and you've got the ingredients for Interstate Bumper Cars! :p

What's so ridiculous is the news reports of it all. They act like the end of the world is upon us. They station reporters all over the metro area and break into regular programming to give us updates of "so-and-so's got 1 inch of accumulation". It's crazy!

I hope everyone is safe and does well during your winter storm! And if you don't want the snow, please send it this way!!! We'd take a good storm.

hey kitty i am about 40 miles south of your sister in Fredericksburg. Blizzard warning until 6 and they are calling for another 5 inches over night.

We have been watching the news and please stay safe everyone. :grouphug:

Winter tips:

Stock up on canned goods and a hand operated can opener in case the electricity goes out. Keep plenty of candles, flashlights with fresh batteries and blankets.

Those who are disabled should notify your utility company as you will be on a priority list. At least that's how it is in our area. They give you a special number to call.

Buy extra bread and put it in the freezer because that is the first thing stores run out of if there is bad weather.

Pack a small suitcase with a set of clothing and toiletries and keep in the car in case you are not able to get home. I did this for years and only used it once when I had to stay overnight at a friends as there were three foot drifts on the road to my home.

Keep a blanket and flashlight in your car and check the batteries and keep in the car not in your trunk.

Keep an emergency first aid kit in your car.

Buy kitty litter and keep in your car in case of ice. Sometimes you can sand bags free from fire department if there are some left over from flood preps. That's what I did.

Be sure to keep your cell phone charged and let someone know where you are going, the route you will be taking and expected arrival.

Oh yeah; if you spray your snow shovel with non-stick cooking spray the snow won't stick to it and it will make your job a little easier.

Also; if your satellite dish is low enough to reach it spray it lightly and snow won't stick.

Our dish is on top of the house and the one day a year (hopefully not more) we get a "dusting" of the white poopy stuff poor DH has to get the ladder out and brush it off and then spray it.

I just have you know, RAIN! You snow bunnies...be careful!

Riverwild 12-20-2009 09:07 AM

I got Taffers beat!

Twenty miles inland from the coast here in midcoast Maine...and not a flake has fallen!
Where I work is about a mile from the ocean and no snow there this morning either.

Thanks to everyone who sucked up all the snow south of me! :D I TRULY appreciate your thinking of me and helping me out and I hope y'all have fun with it and enjoy your white Christmas!

....streaking out before the hail of snowballs comes!!...>
