Shocked Break is over!

I am getting ready to leave for school. My break is over. I know I am really lucky to have had three weeks off, but I still could use another week. I wasn't able to sleep last night-- think I am dealing with the first day jitters. I can't believe I still get them after teaching for 24 years. I have been dealing with a lot of spasticity as well as other health issues over the past few weeks so this is going to be a challenge. I hope that I have good classes. It seems that everyone is a bit grumpy during the first few months of "Spring" semester.

Congrats on teaching for 24 yrs! Good luck with your classes. Isn't it a good sign you're a little nervous? If not, maybe it had gotten boring.

Barb-I taught Emotionally Disturbed Studens (not as hard and bad as it sounds, often had same kids for years (they don't do major changes well, could teach with my eyes closed (same stuff over and over), but got first day jitters every new year. I think all good teachers who take it seriously and don't "coast" do. I could not do it now. In a chair I could never catch and restrain kids (as was needed sometimes) or seem to have abnormally good hearing and eyes in the back of my head, But I did love it! My students were wonderful (to me they seemed it) and I miss it.

Thanks everyone! I made it through my first day. First class seemed pretty good; I am not so sure about the second one. they were rather surly. My first class is an honors section; it is always a joy to teach those classes. I had a bit of trouble getting around as my spasticity still seems to be worsening. Dang -- cold weather! I f I could get a scooter in and out of my car trunk, I would definitely consider one. Although, trying to deal with one in the snow and ice would definitley be a problem.

glad you made it thru it. I bet you could find a handy student or two who would love extra credit to haul your scooter in and out of your car. I bet if you ask the coach, he can make a volunteer or two show up every morn, and every eve. go get um!

Glad that the first day is over and went good

Wishing that tomorrow and all the days that are left will be on yourside.

It would be great having more teachers like you. I have known some
that are just taking up space in the classroom.
