Default scooter ?

My Mom has had a scooter for five years and her insurance company is buying her a new one. It has only been ridden in her retirement community. So she is giving me the old one. I don't know what kind it is. It is the typical chair, not the one with the basket. I think I know from reading here that I shouldn't keep the battery on the floor. But what other things do I need to remember to keep it charged also that when I do need it that is will be usable? I'm not sure if it can be taken down so it is more easily transportable.

The only thing I can think of is charge it up at least once a month so the batteries don't drain. And don't keep it in the cold. How sweet of your mom to pass it down to you.

How excellent for you, Doyd! Not much to it, just use it once in awhile and make sure to cycle the battery now and then. If you need a new battery, whatever you do, don't get it at the gimp store— Batteries Plus always has them and they're a lot cheaper there.

Example: I just got a new set for my travel bike and at the gimp store, they wanted $150 while B.P. switched them out for $65.

Have fun and don't drink & scoot.

Medicare pays for a NEW battery at least once every 2 years! I am not sure how it works if medicare didnt approve your scooter, but my mom gets a new one every 2 years on them.

If Medicare did not approve the scooter for the individual in the first place, then they will not pay for batteries. And batteries have to be a specific kind not just any battery for the scooters.

Perhaps your Mom has a booklet on the scooter. Or check the scooter as it should say what kind it is. Then you can use your search engine to see what is needed. Or there may be a scooter store near you where you can find that information out. You do not want to put just any battery in it. They use a special kind to work properly. But at this point, there wouldn't be any warranty on it for you anyway as you aren't the original owner/purchaser so maybe that doesn't matter.

When you say it's a typical chair with no basket, are you meaning that it's like a powered wheelchair? Or is it an actual scooter type? A three wheeler or a four wheeler? Thanks.
