Teeth I went to the dentist today

That was probably one of the most painless and easiest dental visits I've ever had.

I think my old dentist was a quack, because everytime I'd go to see him, he'd find a cavity or something wrong. I quit going to him when he threw instruments across the room when the novocaine wasnt working on me quick enough for him.

My current dentist, I've been going to her since December of 2007. She's been slowly replacing all my amalgam fillings, and trying to fix up all the shoddy work that the two previous dentists that I've had did. (first dentist was from when I was very little...like 4 or 5, other guy I'd been going to till 2004 or 2005. Never had another dentist, other than the dad and the brother of the second dentist)

Current dentist looked at my gums and teeth today and said my mouth was a zillion times better than it used to be. When I had all that amalgam crap in my mouth, it was cracking my teeth, and causing me problems with my gums. She said it was so bad, all she had to do was touch my gums with a finger, and it would make my gums bleed.

When she saw my mouth today, she said my gums were some of the healthiest she'd seen, and that my teeth she's worked on (12 at last count, one was a root canal) looked great. She said out of those 12 teeth, she was surprised that I only needed one root canal.

Said that I must have had a naturally healthy mouth, but all the abuse it took from the amalgam had affected my gums. She was glad to see my gums bounced back in health.

I didnt have any cavities (first time in decades I didnt have something rotting out).

My mom, who had also been going to the same dentist I used to go to, also had her appointment today. The dentist was thrilled that my mom's mouth was healthy today too. Said that it was the first time she'd worked on my mom where she didnt have to fix the previous dentists work, or found any new teeth that needed root canals.

I just have 3 teeth left that need the amalgams removed, but those teeth are actually stable, and I'm still traumatized from the root canal I had last spring, that I just dont want anyone poking at my mouth for awhile longer. I'm planning on having her put veneers on my front teeth to make those teeth look better. (birth defect I have caused the enamel on my front teeth to be soft) Going to have the 3 amalgams fixed during all that. Might get braces too (the Invisalign kind) but just not right now.

I'm just happy that my mouth has been officially declared healthy. I think it was the cause of some of the MS problems I was having for the past few years.

The diplopia I had last summer, hit me around the same time I had that root canal, so I think the infection that caused me to need a root canal is what triggered the diplopia, and possibly the string of exacerbations I've had this year. (the numbness in my hand and a few other places)

I hadnt realized how bad I felt when those teeth were so bad. Dentist told me that I might have been allergic to the amalgam. I feel a lot healthier now than I did a year ago.

So, yay!! I have healthy teeth again! (they were healthy when I was little, until my parents took us to that first dentist who actually had a reputation for drilling into perfectly healthy teeth for money, 2nd dentist was honest, just not that good a dentist)

I'd hate to think how badly I'd be feeling now if I hadnt found my current dentist and had all that work done...or how much worse my MS could be because of those teeth.

miserable teeth, make a miserable patient. You dont know how crummy you can feel till your teeth ache, and your gums are mush.

I am glad you feel better, and have found someone who is actually taking care of your mouth, and not his wallet.

Default Erin,

I had all the mercery fillings replaced in my teeth last year. The dentist explained how that was especially bad for ms patients and gave me some literature to read on it. I know I feel so much better since I had a lot of much needed dental work done. I hope you have good luck with it.

Also, my daughter had the invisilign braces and got along so much better with them than my first daughter had done with regular braces. Good luck with that.

Glad you found a good dentist!!!

I want to get the last 3 mercury fillings out of my mouth...just am too burned out on having people digging around in my mouth...even tho it was June the last time I had any drills near my teeth.

I had so much dental work in 2008 and 2009, it was more than I had in the 30+ years before that. Of course, it was fixing all the stuff that I'd had done in those 30+ years that was going bad.

I believe the stories now about MSers who had improvements after having all the amalgam removed from their mouths. I didnt have improvements in the MS, but I think I had improvements in my overall physical health and in the health of my mouth. Wish it had helped the MS a bit more. (I've had an annoying string of exacerbations this year)
