I keep having dreams about getting another dog. My last dog died in 2006, and I've tried to adopt two puppies since then and had allergy problems with both of them and couldnt keep them.
I need to have an allergist tell me if I'm allergic for sure to dogs. Because I dont know if the first time I had a reaction (5 days after my dog died) was me having a reaction from a food allergy, or if it was me having a weird emotional reaction to my dog dying. I'm wondering if the last time I tried to adopt a dog (last summer) that maybe what I thought was an allergy was me beginning an exacerbation and maybe a panic attack of some sort. If I ever do get another dog, it'll probably be dog that's out of puppyhood. (I'd like a 2yr old large breed dog if I could) |
Erin - I've adopted adult dogs. While there's something about puppies you gotta love, I am completely crazy about my grown up dogs, too. Not potty training? No teething? Sweet!
The largest non-allergenic dog I can think of is a Standard Poodle. Don't write them off - ugh poodles? They're brilliant, loyal, funny dogs with a pretty good life span for a dog that size. And easy to train, considering how smart they are. Often, the smarter they are, the more stubborn and less trainable. They do have a high maintenance coat, but you don't have to opt for a really silly cut with bows and all. They'll need to go to the groomer every 4-6 weeks unless you want to clip them yourself, but they don't ever really have that dog smell. |
Sheba is out growing space...she is sooo big I can't pick her up now. She can run from me at bath time, if I do catch her...she weighs forty plus pounds easy.
She loves my GS, the one that stays here every weekend and all summer, and as a seven yr old thinks its cool that she is taller than him? She jumps on him and all he sees is belly.lol She is still getting better about the sock thing...we just make sure we don't leave any around. I can't see her at all with the lights off...I can see the chihuahua, and jack russell...but not her.lol Brain...my chihuahua thinks he is a hundred pounds of muscle.lol Erin...she has gotten my foot at night trying to get my 'toe' socks off, she grabs my foot at times playing so I 'hide' them. I have these socks that have the toes in them...she will go for them if she sees my toes moving. I would 'adopt' each stray if I could...my neighbors say they never hear the barking. I think they like them here cause it helps protect that jungle they have...and stops people from coming into their back yard. She is going to be huge and she has a very healthy appetite.lol |
my wife and i have taken in another rescue as well.when we moved to this house we thought it was pretty big but its not big enough for my 2 boxers and a foster boxer. when you look into them big brown eyes, its hard to say no
