I got a faucet up-whacked in my girl parts once as I fell! Ouch! Love sitting on shower chair in my WC friendly wheel in shower now. Lucky to have it.

I have responded to ambulance calls where folks got stuck in that spot! It really is quite difficult to drag someone out of the spot, once they are wedged in there.

I am purposeful with my steps, and hand holds in the bathroom. I dont just grab without looking. All those automatic things go away once you get dizzy.

As a girl I read a story, the story forgotten but a tree-climbing rule used in most situations now. The Rule of Three. Don't move 4th limb unless other three firmly planted.

Kicker, you rock!!

I don't have grab bars...yet. I get dizzy when washing the hair too, esp because I turn around to rinse off the various parts of my noggin...with eyes closed of course. Guess I should wear my snorkel goggles when I wash my hair!!

I think we're going to remodel the bathroom next year, if I can wait...We are thinking of putting in a corner-type bathtub and a shower next to it, instead of a combo tub/shower.
Sometimes I think it would be more economical to get a different house, but I'm not ready to leave a home we've had for 31 years I also don't want to leave the fish pond yet...

I've also gotten the shower door off-track before and it's nearly impossible to get it back in. I think it's because I hang onto the rail on the shower door while I'm in there and pull it towards me too far.
When I was in labor in the hospital, I spent probably an hour sitting on a plastic chair in the shower. Could you put a plastic chair in there, if you're worried about falling?

There are two built in seats on either side of the shower so even if I fell (backwards or forward) I would land on a seat. I'm more worried about falling once I'm out of the shower......

I dont have grab bars in my shower (it's a fiberglass shower insert, not sure we could install a grab bar in there) So far I havent had a problem with the MS making me fall down in there. I keep my eyes open, or at least one eye open when I'm washing or rinsing my hair.

I suppose I could do what my mom did for a few years before we had a big shower built for her. She kept a walker in the shower...one that she didnt use for anything else. She'd use that to hold onto while she was taking a shower.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago when I fell down the stairs and messed up my knee. I got mom's old shower walker out and put it in my shower so I'd have something to hold onto while washing my hair. It worked pretty good.

I'm thinking about putting a grab bar on the wall outside my shower. Mostly just in case my mom needs to use my bathroom. (my toilet is lower than the upstairs toilets) I'd like to get something that at least matches the paint in the room and will look nice. Planning on using it as a towel rack as well as a place to grab. That way I'll have a bar in there to grab onto if I ever do need one, and a nice place to hang a towel.

I dont think I'd trust the suction cup style grab bars. They can slide.

I'd only trust a grab bar that's got huge screws embedded in the studs holding up the walls.

Jim and I used to have a stand up shower that was oh, maybe 3'x4'. He fell in it several times and once got jammed between the wall and chair. We had to take the doors off to get him up. That was before we had a lift and before we decided it was time for a roll in shower. I used to consider calling 911 because he was wet, slippery and neked which made it hard for me to lift him. He would beg me to please not call 911. Many of times he had to be dragged out and then I could dry him off.

Oh and one time we had two twin beds together. I went to roll him over to get his pants on and BOOM! he went between the beds. It took me about five mintues to stop laughing and another five to get him up with the lift. I know I know, bad bad Sandy but I am telling you it was a sight to see! He laughed too. lol
