Default 12/15/08 wt. 229 today wt. 188

I don't (can't) exercise due to my MS. The only work out I get (like many of you) is swimming in the summer. I swim almost every day April through Sept. in my pool but the winter is too cold to swim.

I have NO idea why I am losing so much weight but I aint complaining. My parents keep telling me how good I look. They were very worried that I was getting so heavy (I am 5'8") and they are glad I am losing it. I think mom is worried about the weight loss with no working out. (I think she fears cancer or some other major physiological problem).

Has anyone else lost this much over this period of time?

The best part is I put on my jeans yesterday I haven't worn in 5 years and they fit!!! (the jeans are a 38 waist and I have been wearing a 40/42.) Not only that, but my belt is a 40 and it's too big on the tightest hole. TIME FOR A NEW WARDROBE!!!

Earl, that's great news, buttttt.....

Have you told your GP? I'm like your Mom, I guess, cuz I worry when something happens for no apparent reason!!!

Keep the weather nice in AZ -- we'll be there Thursday.

Congrats on the weight loss but I agree you should let you doctor know. Have you just been eating less and not realizing it? Or eating differently? It's a great feeling when you can get back into those old jeans!!

When my brother was dxed with colon cancer but was losing weight on purpose after seeing videos of the last summer vacation where he said he looked like a beached whale, every time he told friends he had cancer, they ran an eye over his thinning figure and I jumped to tell them he meant to lose weight. When he passed away from the cancer later he was still a big guy.

I agree that weight loss is nice, but if you havent cut back on food, or increased your exercise, I would want to know what happened. Did you change meds? add or take away meds? If your thyroid up and kicking? are you having tummy aches, and just dont feel like eating? Or did it just feel so good to start losing, that you adjusted your eating habits?

Not trying to rain on your parade, but weight loss without trying can be a sign of something wrong.

Congrats, Earl! That is great and I'm happy for you.

I agree with your mom as well as others. You may want to mention it to the drs. A quick drop in weight for no reason warrants some attention; general rule - a 5% drop/increase or more. Did you change medications? I put on 30 pounds by starting all these meds. Once I stopped taking Paxil I lost 20 within a month. Just an idea.

Enjoy the new you!

Jim did lose a lot of weight when he stopped Neurontin. HUGE weight. He also cut back on so many sweets and drinks more water. I lost 7 pounds since my last appointment with the doctor too. He seemed concerned but I told him I was trying to lose. I didn't work out at all but lowered my sweets and drink lots of Crystal Light.

Hope this is the same for you.

That's great, Earl. I'll have to see it to believe it. Don't forget that prior to your back surgery, you spent almost all of your time in a power chair. I know that you've been far busier and more active with your walker this past year than you had been for a very long time.

Now, about that mail-order tapeworm and your bulimia...

Congratulations on the weight loss! It feels so good to get back into clothes that were once too small.

Let's see......you've lost a total of 41 pounds over the past 15 months. That works out to be about 2 & 3/4 lb. per month. Broken down like that it doesn't seem as drastic. That's probably the best way to lose it....slow and steady.

I've noticed a big difference just since I've given up Cokes and drink more water.

I lost 65 lbs once, by just, completely cutting fat and red meat from my diet and, I was active.

Since I added a bit of fat and chocolate chip cookies back in and become less active, I gained back 35, but have held that for the last 3 years, by cutting down a bit.

A change in diet, activety, stress and/or attitude, can do it, but, You should still get a check-up, to make sure.
