Default Stupid doctor trying to give me a heart attack at 8:15 this morning!

They do bloodwork every time we do a TY infusion. Except for the last time and the doc was ticked off about it. They never ever ever call me about any of my blood work unless something is wrong. My phone rings this morning while I am taking DD to school. Number is UNAVAILABLE. Which usually means it's the neuro. But they don't open til 9 so it goes to voicemail. I check my mail on the way back in the door.

"Ms. Smith, this is ______ calling from Dr. _____'s office. I wanted to touch base with you about your bloodwork that was done yesterday before your infusion." (pause) My heart jumps into my throat at this point; "everything looks normal, your blood sugar was a little low and there are no changes to the orders."

Which is good news. But dang it! Still waiting on my heart to find it's way back to my chest where it belongs! Thanks for the early morning adrenaline and heart attack there doc.

Oh dear.....I can relate fully to this. Sorry they scared you but glad it was good news.

When DS22 was a teenager (probably 17 or so) he was playing basketball and got hit very hard in the left ear with the ball. It knocked him loopy for a while. Next day his ear was red and swollen....and of course it was a Sunday on a holiday weekend.....so we went to the ER. They checked him out and all was okay but................

A month later I got a phone call from someone at the hospital (and it was about 8:30 PM). Caller ID identified the name of the hospital. Their opening line was "May I speak with the parent or guardian of __________?" Of course, DS was not home at the time and my heart just fell. I assumed that something had happened to him. I was shaking and my knees were so weak I couldn't stand up. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, I said "I'm his Mom". The lady said matter-of-factly "oh, hi! I'm conducting a survey on the service your son received in the ER on such-and-such date. Would you mind answering some questions?"

As soon as I retrieved my heart from the floor I calmy told her that she probably didn't want to hear what my opinions were at that moment and also that she needed to rethink her opening line....she nearly gave me a heart attack. Maybe that's their goal.....it would get them more patients!

When DS was 6, I came home to this message:
"This is the school nurse at _____ school where DS goes, Poison control says he'll be fine." WHAT!!!! Turns out it was just a little hand sanitizer a classmate smeared on an apple slice he gave DS. I made kid's mother cry, calling him psychotic. He was and she knew it and cried over that. More things happened after that.

Then once DD's High School called to ask me why I hadn't called in her absence? WHAT!!!! Last time I saw her she was walking to wait for the school bus. Later they called to apologize, she was right in class, mistake made. Sorry.

Once the heart starts pounding, it's hard to calm it again. Whew.

Legzz, I hate when they do that!! Once had a docs nurse call to tell me a mammogram was ok, but her hesitation on the phone scared the carp out of me!!

Had that happen with my DS. He was a senior, school called to ask why he was absent... told them he better not be! Told them what class he should be in, they called to the room, he was there. Apparently 1st period teacher didn't count him present!
