Ugh, CPAP! Such a love/hate relationship!!!
It took a really long time for me to adapt to sleeping with a mask. Found out months later the setting was wrong and the pressure was on max! Make sure you use baby shampoo to wash your mask, as using a hand soap can cause nasal irritation. I put mine in a lotion dispenser by the sink and it makes it much easier to use. Be sure to wash your mask every day. Try different things with your face. At night I splash mine with water and rub it with a towel. I've found that moisturizers can interfere with attaining a good seal. NOT using the humidifier made it easier for me to breathe - guess I'm used to this dry, desert air in Utah. Do a visual inspection of your mask to see if it is seated properly in the holder. My insurance pays for a new mask/headgear every 3 months. Try a different style next time to see if you like that better. Good luck with the beast, Barb! Oh, and I read the literature that came with my last mask and it stated that a little leakage is normal. If the sound bothers you (it does me), use earplugs. I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight! |
I use earplugs to block DH's snoring...to no avail. I also hear when the CPAP is leaking, and it bugs me. So I play around with it until it sits right.
Kel, I'll never see the letters CPAP without laughing...thanks! |
