Default It's the little things

Funny how just a little thing can make a day better.

DH is a traveling salesman. Huge territory so he is out of town a lot. It means I need to do the little things, like take the garbage can to the street on Wednesdays and the recycling on Fridays.

The garbage can was heavy this morning. Too heavy to tip on its side to roll along the driveway so I am dragging it. I am not nearly as strong as I used to be and walking is difficult.

Oh no! I can hear the garbage truck and it really goes like "a bat out of he11" along our street.

Luckily, a good neighbor is driving by and the husband jumps out of their car to help me. Within seconds, the garbage truck is there. The neighbor waits, puts my empty can back and even picks up my newspaper and sets it on my rollator. What a nice happening.

The garbage man looks at me and gets out of his cab. I think he is going to scold me because of the loose garden clippings but no, he asks if I have trouble getting the garbage to the street.

I say yes.

Little did I know that all I need to do is fill out a form (and prove that I am handicapped). From that point on, the garbage people will be able to go into my garbage area, empty my trash and put it back.

Same for my recycling bin.

This morning was a good morning. A good samaritan neighbor and never having to take the garbage can out to the street again.

Funny how the little things can make my day.

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Last week I was taking the recycling out late on Monday (my day off and I slept late.)

I was in the garage and the truck was going down the street fast, so I ran out there and flagged him down. He waited for me to get the containers out there.

YAY for the trash collectors!!!!! Kind of restores your faith in America. Mine came along last Thursday while I was struggling to get into my DIL's van to go to the doctor. He came over to the van, asked how I was doing and told me why sometimes in the winter he isn't able to put the empty can back by the garage door. Maybe we should get rid of all the politicians and put those garbage collectors in!! They seem to have a much better attitude!

aarcyn,

Just what I need to see before I go to bed. A really upbeat post. How sweet!! I have the handicap sign on my curb and my trash is picked up right outside the garage door.

My mail carrier puts a rubberband around all my mail and puts my newspaper through the mail slot in my garage. He saw me gathering mail from the garage floor a few years ago. The simple little rubberband makes it so much easier for me. Also, having my newspaper inside my garage is really special.

I have told him what a nice guy he is. Now I'm going to bed on with good thoughts about simple things in life.

When we do something nice or thoughtful for someone else it might seem small to us......but you never know what one act of kindness can do for another person.

Aacyn,
Thank you!. My mail box is way down a long, hilly drive and postioned so a mailtruck can pull up to place mail in on a fairly busy road where people speed and box has been knocked down 5 times in last ten years. Kids off to college next year, they used to get my mail for me, think with a call, mailman will bring it up hill to me. Gonna try.

Default Update

My doorbell rings. There is a Solid Waste Management representative at my door.

He is apologizing because he did not respond to this yesterday. Huh? I did not call yesterday.

I was going to make a call today to find out how to make trash pick up a reality but yesterday my hero garbage man took it upon himself to make the initial call. I am in awe of his kindness.

The new guy tags my cans and gives me a business card with the fax number for my doctor's note.

I called MS doctor's office. It is nice to have something so simple simply done.

Makes for another good little thing on yet another day.

That is wonderful I am going to ahve to find out if our county does that. My DH takes care of it all nwo but my sis and I were talking the other day about what would happen if we outive our husbands. She is used to living with a man that is the mastr at penny pinching so she doesn't know how she could emotinally let go of money to pay a lawn care, etc. I on the other hand have lived with a man that it wouldn'y matter if I had something taken care of.

A funny thing about the trash collector truck. My oldest was about 10 years old at the time. You know how the truck sounds when it raises its load into the truck. As it goes down the street it raises it over and over. So she comes running into our bedroom early one morning. Her bedroom faces the street and she had been listening to this truck get closer and closer. She was screaming, terrified. She announced that the rapture was coming and wanted to amke sure all of us were going!

Wow, Cyn! Thanks for the update. What an awesome garbage man you have. I think the next time you make all that bread, a loaf for the garbage man is in order.

when i was still in denver my mail carrier said if i filled out a certain form that they would deliver my mail to my door. that was nice to know.

those random acts of kindness is what makes a community.
