Default Did you know Protonix can cause THC false positive urine?

My mom who is always full of good stories was telling me that she was in the ER being treated for stroke sx recently, when her MD appeared on the scene, treated her like a drug addict, and sent her home. The staff at the ER were ready to admit her for monitering till her MD got there, and did a urine test. After an hour, he came in, treated her badly, and discharged her with a lecture about meds...She got a new MD, and when being interviewed she told him about what happened in the ER. She said she has never been treated so badly, and cant shake what happened.

The new MD researched her visit to the ER. Assured her she didnt have a stroke, nor did she need to stay, but she rang up Positive on a THC (marijuanna) test with the urinalysis. He said after a bit of research he found that its a common occurance for folks on Protonix to test positive for urine test THC. If you are on it, you need to ask for the blood test.

well, knowing my mom, I didnt believe her. I looked it up and I will be a monkey's uncle, its TRUE! I guess many have lost jobs over false positives for THC being found in standard urine tests for job screenings.

Who knew?!

But, for a urine test they will usually have you list all medications you take, not just prescriptions. That way they exclude any results that may be caused by legitimate medication use. It can suck since you are always assumed to be guilty.

Wow! Your poor mom to have to be treated that way. I too am surprised that labs don't note that on the results. As you mentioned, that could really affect a lot of innocent people.

Wow! I take that and nobody ever warned about this... so glad I now know and also know how to defend mysef if it ever were to become an issue! Makes me wonder about that ER visit a long while back when the doctor kept asking me over and over again to just be "be honest" about all illicit drug use.

Amazing...
